Speed Latin

Some people, usually men in my experience, feel the need to rush ALL the prayers. This holds true for the Rosary before Mass, the prayers after low Mass, etc.

Some people also have a problem with praying too slowly, and they are very LOUD about it.

I agree with the posters above, pray at the same speed as the priest. Low Mass is a toss up on if you speak or not. Some people do, most don’t. High Mass is a little different as you can just sing with the Choir and no one can really co-opt the speed of the singing.

UGH!

We choir members HATE it when someone below is deliberately singing at a different speed than us. Extremely irritating. :banghead:

Yes, I know what you mean. I am in the choir too. When the organist hears this the organ tends to get a little louder. After several times with that response the offender got the message and fell in line.

Heh, right.

The other thing that is rather irritating (but not as bad) is when the women of the choir are the only ones singing, and a some super low bass down there decides to sing it 3 octaves lower than them. Heh. They don’t tend to be aware of it, either.
 
I hear “speed Latin” each week at one place in the Mass. That is from the priest reading the Last Gospel. If memory serves, I’ve heard visiting priests do the same thing. I don’t know if it is some kind of old-school tradition but I don’t like it. So it’s the same every week—are we in a rush all of a sudden? :confused:

At my parish our priests do the entire mass (low mass) very, very fast, but we haven’t had any complaints. Everyone can understand the priests.
