Did Espinoza try to describe God thought math or geometry like pythagoras?
The Stoics were pantheists and quite influential in their day. Hinduism is also often described as pantheistic.No.
He made a list of assumptions about existence, causality and things like that.
He ended up being a pantheist, which means the universe and God are one.
It is really atheism.
You’ll notice that there is not a religion based on pantheism. The idea is too ridiculous.
I thought pagans and wiccans were pantheists. The Stoics were pantheists and quite influential in their day. Hinduism is also often described as pantheistic.
I thought Spinoza was Jewish. Did he really have these sorts of commentaries on the gospels? I thought this “demytholigizing” of the gospels was more of a 19th century thing.Spinoza’s main damage to Christianity was to “reinvent” how we read Sacred Scripture. For example, when I go to mass and hear the priest say that Jesus may not have actually mutiplied loaves and fishes…but “performed the greater miracle of getting everyone to share what they had”…then I see Spinoza’s influence at work. Spinoza emphasized de-mystifying the Scriptures from God’s Living Word…to…a collection of historically skewed documents–where epilepsy is called demon possesion…etc.
