THE SPIRITIST DOCTRINE or SPIRITISM

What it is

It is the set of laws and principles, as revealed by the Superior Spirits, contained in the works of Allan Kardec, which constitute the Spiritist Codification: The Spirits’ Book, The Mediums’ Book, The Gospel According to Spiritism, Heaven and Hell, and The Genesis.
“Spiritism is a science which deals with the nature, origin and destiny of Spirits, as well as their relationship with the corporeal world.”
Allan Kardec (Taken from Qu’est-ce que le Spiritisme? - Préambule)
Translated from the original French

“Spiritism realises what Jesus said of the promised Consoler, by bringing knowledge of those things which allow Man to know where he came from, where he is going and why he is on Earth; so attracting mankind towards the true principles of God’s law and offering consolation through faith and hope.”
Allan Kardec (Taken from The Gospel According to Spiritism - Chap. 6 - Item 4)
Translated from the original French

What it reveals

It reveals new and more profound concepts with respect to God, the Universe, the Human Being, the Spirits and the Laws which govern life itself.
Furthermore, it reveals what we are; where we have come from; where we are going; what is the objective of our existence; and what is the reason for pain and suffering.

Isaiah 8

19And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

20To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Leviticus 19:31
Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.

Leviticus 20:6
And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.

Leviticus 20:27
A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

Deuteronomy 18

9When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

10There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

11Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

1 Samuel 28:3
Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

1 Samuel 28:7
Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

1 Samuel 28:8
And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

1 Samuel 28:9
And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

**1 Chronicles 10:13-14 (New International Version)

13 Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.**

2 Kings 21:6
And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

2 Kings 23:24
Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.

1 Chronicles 10:13
So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

2 Chronicles 33:6
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Isaiah 19:3
And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.

Where I live spiritism is almost a standard phase in growing up. i got deeply involved in it long ago when I was young. It’s dangerous and destructive, though it doesn’t always feel that way at first. That’s why hardly anyone stays in it very long.

When I was into that stuff, we had many “safeguards” against unwanted spirits in our homes and they didn’t often seem to work. A common one in Wiccan and ceremonial magick is to draw a shape around oneself and another where the spirits are invited, to keep the two separate. It doesn’t work. We also used all kinds of banishments. They didn’t do much good after the first few times. Of course, it was hard to tell if they had left. but sometimes it was obvious something was still there. We were scratched, bruised and otherwise attacked often. They played a game of one pretending to get another out of the house in return for some service or promise, then attacking us, then another would do the same, till we had become their puppets and lived in constant fear and fatigue. Of course, we ended up dealing wih a lot of them. God has freed me. Praise the Lord!

Reminds me of Acts 19

13Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15(One day) the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” **16Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. **

How does ‘spiritism’ relate to Wiccan?

In either ‘spiritism’ or ‘wiccan’ can a spirit, or something (don’t know what to call it, move into a person’s home or the room where they do their ‘thing’?
Spiritism has no clergy, nor does it adopt or use at any of its meetings or during its practices the following: altars, images, candles, processions, sacraments, concession of indulgences, religious vestiments, alcoholic or hallucinogenic beverages, incense, tobacco, talismans, amulets, horoscopes, cartomancy, pyramids, crystals, or any other objects, rituals or external forms of worship.
Spiritism does not impose its principles. It invites those interested in knowing it to submit its teachings to the test of reason before accepting them.
Mediumship, which allows the Spirits to communicate with Human Beings, is a faculty which many individuals bring with them at birth, independent of whatever religion or beliefs they may come to adopt.
Spiritist mediumship practice is solely that which is exercised based on the principles of the Spiritist Doctrine and within the Christian moral concepts.
Spiritism respects all religions and doctrines; values all efforts towards the practice of goodness; works towards peace and fellowship between all nations and all peoples, regardless of race, colour, nationality, creed, cultural or social standing. It also recognizes that “the truly good person is one who complies with the laws of justice, love, and charity in their highest degree of purity.” (The Gospel According to Spiritism – chapter 17 – item 3)

CAMPAIGN FOR THE DISSEMINATION OF SPIRITISM

“and within the Christian moral concepts.”

No it is not, scripture is plain God hates spiritism, he calls it an abomination!!! And, those who practice such abominations are acting contray to God’s law and acting contray to Christian morality. You can try to sell your nonsense all you want. But, if someone chooses to follow your false teachings, you will find yourself in a deeper level of lake of fire, aka eternal punishment, aka Hell.

Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Galatians 5:19-21 (New International Version)

19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The word witchcraft here is a general term that includes all occultic practices, including spiritism.

1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Spiritism has became a word I dread in my house. My parents are into it and constantly attack the Catholic Church because of it. And the worst thing about it is that they tend to twist everything Catholic to fit their needs (e.g., the Saints are evolved spirits that reincarnated to help us). I find it curious though, why none of my parents questions one of the claims that Kardec makes in his “Gospel according to Spiritism”. He says that Science has proved that resurrection is impossible. Now, if you believe that God created everything ex nihilo, then how is it impossible for Him to resurrect one’s body, or even give him a new, glorified one? They also claim that there is scientific proof of the soul. Scientific proof, if I’m not mistaken, relies on the measurable, and the measurable is material (i.e., composed of matter). Now, the soul is spiritual, ergo immaterial. If you can “measure” the soul, then that would mean it is material, and if it is material then it is corruptible, and if it is corruptible it is not immortal (as the Spiritualists hold that the soul is, as we do).
I take it that Spiritualism appeals to sensual people. I believe that it is a clever way for Satan to damn souls: he leads people to think that they are doing good, while in the meantime they do not deepen their relationship with God because they are too busy with the “revelation” of these so called “spirits”.

Does anyone know how to turn people away from this form of Gnosticism?

Here in Brazil, Spiritism is the second largest religion in number of followers, just behind Roman Catholicism. Many Catholics here also believe in Spiritist doctrines, like reincarnation, the possibility of communication between the living and the dead, etc.

Francisco Cândido Xavier (a.k.a. Chico Xavier) was very famous here (and still is) for allegedly channeling books from spirits. Many people went to his house to get a message from relatives who had passed away. They wanted to know if their loved ones were OK (i.e., if they were in Heaven). Globo Filmes, Sony Pictures and Downtown are producing a film about Chico Xavier, to be relased on April 2010. They’ve already released a teaser trailer, that I posted here (with English subtitles).

Rubens Faria is also famous in Brazil for performing psychic surgeries (or spiritual surgeries, as Spiritists call them here). Faria says he channels a German physicist called Adolph Fritz, who served on the First World War. He performs the surgeries while in trance. Faria’s an engineer by profession.

Catholics can invite the Holy Spirit into their lives but cannot be open to any other spirit. We can ask our guardian angels (spirits) to pray for us and inspire us to do God’s will. That’s all. So your ads aren’t very helpful to us.
