Never heard this term before.

I have heard of Spiritual Directors. Who needs a spiritual director? Any one who wishes to grow deeper in the Spiritual life. Especially anyone discerning a vocation to religious life or the priesthood.

Where did you run across the term “Spiritual Advisor”?

A spiritual/advisor director is someone who will help us in our Christian life, they will help us grow closer to Jesus.

Everyone needs a guide, we cannot make it on our own. We need someone to show us the way.

Reading the lives and writings of the saints is very important, they can show us how to be better Christians.

It should really be a qualifyied spiritual director not just a friend. You parish priest might be able to give you some names that might be helpful.

It’s really impoartnt that you try and find someone who is holy, they take their faith seriously and they’re trying to become holy and they must be knowledgeable about the faith. When they direct you knowledge is important to make sure you don’t go down the wrong track.

Everyone should ahve a spiritual director.

A spiritual director has a particular, defined role.

A spiritual advisor is simply someone who advises someone else on spiritual matters - like a financial advisor, only without any qualifications or anything. Some people misuse the term “spiritual advisor” or think that one substitutes for a spiritual director.

I just run from the term “spiritual advisor”, myself.

I think some like this term (I do not) because of a dislike of the traditional role of a Spiritual Director.

That traditional role would be to actually direct the directee with the directee actually treating what the direct directs as an obedience. That is they do what they are directed to do. This is why, traditionally, Spiritual Directors have been at the very least religious if not priests.

Agreed; I didn’t want to say it outright just in case I got jumped on by someone more knowledgeable than I.
