I started attending a prayer group at one of my local parishes. At the end of the prayer group they pray for aborted children, their mothers and all involved in the abortion. They follow this with praying a decade of the Rosary for the aborted children. After this comes what they call a “SPIRITUAL BAPTISM” The ritual is as follows: “For all the boy babies aborted I name you John Paul and I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” They sprinkle Holy Water three times like a normal baptism. Then they do the same for all the girl babies aborted.

My question is “Is this Catholic Theology?” It was started by a Carmalite Sister in the group and I just don’t feel right about it. Should this practice be stopped? If so, what can I use as an authority to stop it?

Any help would be most welcome. Thank you.

From the Catechism
1261 As regards children who have died without Baptism, the Church can only entrust them to the mercy of God, as she does in her funeral rites for them. Indeed, the great mercy of God who desires that all men should be saved, and Jesus’ tenderness toward children which caused him to say: "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them,"64 allow us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who have died without Baptism. All the more urgent is the Church’s call not to prevent little children coming to Christ through the gift of holy Baptism.
This sounds more Morman than Catholic. I would report it to the local priest. It is not Catholic theology. A person must be alive to recieve the sacraments.

The whole practice should not be stopped. Only the part that follows Mormon theology.

The Catholic part:

At the end of the prayer group they pray for aborted children, their mothers and all involved in the abortion. They follow this with praying a decade of the Rosary for the aborted children.

The Mormon part:

After this comes what they call a “SPIRITUAL BAPTISM” The ritual is as follows: “For all the boy babies aborted I name you John Paul and I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” They sprinkle Holy Water three times like a normal baptism. This is what I meant. Thank you for clarifying it.
