Spiritual Dangers of Success

Hi all,

I was hoping to gain some wisdom from you good folks here. Recently I have been experiencing moments of great success when it comes to connecting with non-catholics. I just keep on experiencing these moments where I connect with them about my faith and I am able to get them to consider the Catholic church.

I am not used to such moment. Its left me feeling the temptations of spiritual pride. Like it is somehow my doing that these conversations went so well. It is really the Holy Spirit that made these conversations so successful.

In short, I want to give glory and praise to God and be thankful that he has used me to touch the people. I know I am just a tool that the Lord has decided to use. And who knows whether these conversations will ultimately bear fruit that lasts.

Anyway, does anyone have similar experiences?

Good Morning!
I have experienced this also and I do truly believe it is the Holy Spirit at work. Encounters like these are put before us often…we just have to be willing to share. I also have to do a “humility check”. I pray the prayer for humility daily…😇
 
Yes, success can lead to spiritual sloth, a big downer. I have a good book I’m trying to read (again!) called “Overcoming Lukewarmness.” It has gotten me to thinking about this stuff too. Now that we are in Lent, I find myself wanting to guard what I think and feel so that I won’t fall into that mentality. I pray that all of us can be humble and successful at all times. True humility can lead more people to God than any well spoken word. Whether it be in a homily or a discussion, whatever it is God must be the forefront of it all. 👍
 
Pride is a huge spiritual battle for me. I’ve found that focusing on the ways I have failed the Lord each day and throughout my life helps to keep me in my place.
 
Keep in mind that nothing you have, was from yourself, but given to you from above.
