Dear all,

I tried to help a non christian out and I think I pissed him off. He was catholic and all I did was gave him a prayer of spiritual deliverance and he said I go to go bye! I was like okie I thought to myself I was only helpin him. He has a demon lurking around him it is attaching itself to him.

I also said: In the name of Jesus Christ and by the merits of His precious blood, I break and dissolve every curse, hex, seal, spell, sorcery, bond , snare, trap, device, lie, stumbling block, deception, diversion or distraction, spiritual chain or spiritual influence, also every disease of body, soul, mind or spirit placed upon us or in this place or on any of the persons places and things mentioned by any agent or brought on us by our own mistakes or sins (Repeat three times) :knight2: :byzsoc:

I now place the cross of Jesus Christ between myself and all generations in my family tree. I say in the name of Jesus Christ that there will be no direct communication between the generations. All communication will be filtered through the Precious Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. I told him to say that aloud and he rejected. 🤷 :sad_yes:

Mary the Immaculate, clothe me in the light, power and energy of your faith. Father please assign the angels and saints to assist me. Than you Lord Jesus for being my wisdom, my Justice, my Sanctification, my Redemption. I surrender to the ministry of Your Holy Spirit and receive Your truth concerning intergenerational healing…

I’m not sure if I understand this correctly. If you are under the impression that Catholics are “non-christian”? Because that is incorrect.

We are VERY MUCH “Christian”. We follow, worship and adore Jesus Christ.

Can you explain your dilemma a little more clearly to help me understand? Thank you. And God bless.

i know catholics are christian I am catholic too my dear. I just have a friend that is not catholic well he is a ex catholic he needs prayers can you pray for him he is under demonic influences and needs spiritual deliverance!

I love christ with all my heart and i think you read my post wrong hun…

Hi Moonflower,

I wasn’t sure from your post if you just gave him a copy of it or said the prayer over him. One concern with that prayer is that it contains imprecatory language. It’s better to ask God to break the curse than to say prayers in which we do the commanding directly. Here’s an example of a very similar prayer using deprecatory language instead:

Prayer to Break Curses

Generally the person afflicted should say that prayer for himself.

(For an explanation of imprecatory vs. deprecatory language, see # 5 on this page.)

I don’t recommend diagnosing and/or telling someone they are demonized unless you have training and experience in this area.

I do recommend praying for him. Here is a really good spiritual warfare prayer for a friend:

Faithful Catholics don’t believe in curses and hexes (etc.)

Faithful Catholics cannot presume they can heal in Jesus’ name.

And why oh why would anyone presume they have the power or authority to place Jesus between them and all generations in their family, and why would they want to?

Very un-Catholic prayer. I think you should speak with your pastor.

Fr. Gabriele Amorth, exorcist of Rome, says many of the cases he handles are the result of curses/spells/etc. Those things work not because of “magic” but because they call on demons.

In Begone, Satan, (which has a nihil obstat and imprimatur) a woman became possessed after being cursed by her father.

Technically my Priest has gave me premission to know what is demonized and what is of God. I have the gift of Discernment and my Priest is an Archdiocene priest and believes in me he said to bishop John that I know what I am talking about and that I am speaking truth…

Hi “Moonflower”. I’m sorry! :hug1: The wording of your original post was confusing to me. I’m glad that there are so many people here who are intelligent, and were able to understand. Looks like you got some great answers.

God bless.

P.S. I never for one moment “questioned” your own love for Our dear Lord. 🙂

Why do you consider this un-catholic?

i he needs prayers can you pray for him he is under demonic influences and needs spiritual deliverance!

I …
only a priest trained and commissioned as an exorcist can make this determination, the best way to help your friend is to refer him to a priest. You are playing with fire if you attempt deliverance ministry on your own, beyond simply praying for him.

I’m not quite sure what to make of this…

I’m not a canon lawyer, but I’m pretty sure you priest doesn’t have this kind of authority.

The gift of discernment is from God, it doesn’t come through your priest or anyone else.

Also, only an authorized exorcist priest, can free a person from demonic possession. Not even a diocesan priest, who has not been given permission from the Bishop, can perform exorcisms and its dangerous for anyone other than the authorized exorcist priest to get involved in such things.

Piggybacking on what Jim said, there is a Vatican document to address this issue. The bottom line is that we can pray for someone we believe is demonized, but we shouldn’t try to cast out demons ourselves using imprecatory commands.

Charmian,

There is such a thing as the gift of discernment of spirits.
Discernment …ability to perceive good and evil spirits; and also to perceive the spirit of truth from the spirit of error in a profound and sublime manner [1 Cor 12:10]
Source: Charism Gifts Building Up the Church
A person with such a gift should have the guidance of a spiritual director or priest to discern the gift, and it sounds like Moonflower has done that. What she probably needs is guidance on what to do with that gift.

Is this a joke or is Moonflower just really ignorant?
Neither, IMO.

I do think (could be wrong though) there’s some confusion in this thread. There’s a definite difference between rites of exorcism and praying for removal of demonic influence in our lives and the lives of others. I think Moonflower is talking about the former, and the responses are talking about the latter.

I know that at times I’ve been blessed with the ability to see the devil’s works as they occur. I’ve discussed this before with a priest and he has equipped me with great spiritual guidance on how to deal with those situations.
