Are there any spiritual directors that do sessions by Skype?

I have been unable to find a female spiritual director in my area. I prefer not to discuss the details about why I have been unable to find someone to meet with in person in my geographic area…

I prefer to have a female spiritual director, so I have not considered going to a priest for spiritual direction.

Are you aware of any spiritual directors that will meet by Skype? Thanks in advance for your helpful recommendations.

Have you checked with your dioceses office they may have a list of spiritual directors you can contact about using Skype?

Are you serving the Lord? After 4 years my husband has finally found one. He belongs to an apostolate and gets to travel 1-2 times a year. He finally met a holy priest that agreed to be his spiritual director. I have been searching for 5 decades. I have given up. Although a very holy nun once directly answered my email. You might want to try a convent or monastery.

I don’t have a suggestion, but I can totally see a niche for this sort of thing for people who cannot find an accessible spiritual direction resource in their area, for those who travel a lot, or for those who are just more comfortable communicating electronically than they may be face to face.

It’s one thing to say you need to be there in person to receive a sacrament or blessing, but there is absolutely no reason one can’t receive spiritual direction by Skype or similar. In olden times people wrote letters back and forth for direction.

Until the original poster can find an SD to her liking, I would suggest the Dominican method of SD – reading up on the classics and checking in at the local church for confession should a problem arise.

When I was still in college, and belonged to the lay fraternity in Louisville, I would sometimes ring our spiritual director, who was also a friend, and the first words out of his mouth would be, “Is there a problem?” When I told him, no, I was just calling to say hi, he would almost hypnotically go through a list of questions, the only one of which I remember being the statement, “Trying to be a good person.”

Adoration is also a good route. The Liturgy of the Hours can suffice, as well. How it coincides with what’s going on in life is uncanny.

I’d say this also applies to the Daily Mass readings as well. LOTH is on my prayer bucket list, but even the DMR work well.

I checked it out and it looks good, but the only SD is a man. Nothing against men, but I prefer to discuss personal issues with a woman.

I can’t count anymore the number of times I’ve been worried about something, was upset, hard of heart, or even joyful and the Liturgy of the Hours had something in it speaking directly to something going on in my life.
