I have been thinking of trying to get into some form of spiritual direction. I ask because I do not see anything really around my parish about it. There of course is penance, but penance has lines and we are not the center the universe. I would not say I am in a dark place with my Faith now, but I just think it is nice to be able to talk about something with a Priest.

It all depends how intense you want it to be. Priests are EXTREMELY busy. You many need to be open to having someone other than a priest work with you on a regular basis.

I don’t want to discourage you into not asking a priest…but just wanna forwarn you so you aren’t offended.

God bless and good luck
Ask the Lord to send someone to help you

Ask for your priest if he can recommend someone. Sometimes there are spiritual centres that offer spiritual direction but you may not have heard about it for whatever reason. If he can’t then, contact some of your local religious orders. Often they will provide spiritual direction as well.

Yes! They are so busy, but we are lucky to have them!

So if I can not get a priest and I go to a lay person. Do they have to have certain qualifications?

I totally get why they would be very busy. Two of the pairshes in my town combined so we share Priests basically.

Go to YouTube and watch some Fr. Larry. Get a copy of his book Surrender.

Have coffee with Jesus each morning. Read and think about a Bible verse. Read a chapter in a religious book. Pray a rosary. That kinda thing. Start walking with The Lord and He’ll guide you.

:hug1:

The advantage of having a priest as spiritual director is that confession is, or can be, a part of it. So if there is a priest whom you go to for confession and feel comfortable with, begin by asking him, even if he seems busy. If he can’t meet, ask him to recommend either another priest or a qualified lay person. Good luck! 🙂

It is difficult for me to find a spiritual director where I live, so I have used this as a resource. They also have a spiritual-director finder for different areas of the country.
