What ya up to Misslollipops?

There is no direct answer to that, it is between you and the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, no one here can answer that for you.

I’m sure gifts are unlimited.

Through baptism and confirmation all believers recieve the 7 gifts of the holy spirit which are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord (reverence). How fully we come into these gifts depends on how we live our lives and they are given to all of us to enable us to live a Christ-like life.

In addition to these gifts God bestows upon certian persons supernatural gifts given to said person to help build up the church and the glory of God.

I think there are 9 of these gifts…which are speaking wiht wisdom, speaking with knowledge, faith, healing, prophesy, miracles, discernment of spirits, tongues.

Anyway there is much to understand regarding these gifts. I recommend you start by reading the gifts of hte Holy Ghost section at: newadvent.org/cathen/07409a.htm

I have come accross a couple of sites when googling about Catholic discernment of your gifts to help the church. They are classes that are offered. You might want to do some research.

Both , Have at it. drbo.org/
scborromeo.org/ccc.htm. The bible mentions wisdom 349 times, understanding 153, knowledge 184, counsel 169, fortitufe 8, piety 3 and fear of the Lord 155. A search of the CCC comes up with 4 pages of reference’s. Tim

So do you recognize the gift of wisdom in your own life? Can you say you can see when someone who is not baptized does not have the gift?
In other words, are these gifts noticeable?
Just like a person with the gift of singing, the gift would be noticeable.

I don’t know many people and don’t think about their gifts. My opinion is everyone has their stations in life and have something good to bring to the table. Kind of a potluck dinner.🙂 Tim

I think you are saying you know you have the gifts but don’t really notice that you have them.
Is that true?

From scripture although I don’t think scripture adds the part about confirmation. (I am at work and don’t have time to check for you.) There are references all over the bible about spiritual gifts.

There are probably other people on this forum better versed on teh bible that can give you specifics off the top of their head. That is not I.

If you read the link I sent you it says that the gifts will specifically manifest to glorify God. It is my understanding for intsance that the “Wisdom” would be supernaturally granted to help you understand a scriptual passage for instance. Also you need to consider wisdom as being different from knowledge and different from intelligence… gotta run.

Depending on how far people are along spiritually they might notice that they have these gifts others do not. I know a few people who have been given knowledge about various things related to scripture and are totally uneducated on the subject. Where did that knowledge come from? They just somehow have a “knowing.”

Also when you get into the extra supernatural gifts those are obvious.

If you realize you have a gift, as a Catholic, you wouldn’t want to advertise as we are all supposed to remain humble and quiet. If you were telling people you would be sort of raising yourself up amongst them and getting special recognition and as a result you wouldn’t be using the gift to glorify God, instead you would be using it to glorify yourself. As a result you would be going backwards spiritually. Make sense?

If there are people on this forum who know they have these gifts they are going ot for the most part not advertise because they have advanced spiritually partially due to their humility.

If you feel you might have these gifts or want them the path is to follow the saints. A good one to follow would be Padre Pio because he got what seems to be all of the gifts and then some.

But eph 4:11-12 says that the gifts are for the edification of the body of Christ. How could your specific gifts edify the body if no one knows you have them?

You can say very wise and uplifting things without being aware to do so, just out of inner kindness, just for example.

But if you’ve got a charisma like glossolalie, you’d most likely know 😃

1cor12:7 says we all have gifts if we are born of the Spirit. And the gifts are for the profit of all.

Yes, I have been given many gifts by God - some of which I find easy to use and others that I have to work at a little (patience). I have also been given the gift of tongues which is at times visible although I tend to use tongues in my personal private prayer life as a means for direct communication with God with my soul. There have only been a couple of times when I used tongues ‘publicly’ and I was at a charasmatic conference. I tend to pray in my mother tongue though or just quietly worship away.🙂
