Spiritual help needed. Demons in home?

Please don’t think I’m crazy here.

In the past few months very strange and creepy things have been happening in our house. A picture randomly fell off the wall while I was praying a Marian prayer, the faucet will start dripping water, the computer turned on at night after I heard the mouse click while my husband and I were already in bed (since the computer is relatively near the bed) and I have had two nightmares where demons we’re trying to sexually assault me. I also started having health problems again this fall/ winter. All of this happened after my in laws lived in our house for a week.

My husband and I are both in the state of grace to the best of my knowledge (and we have no children yet, though we are praying for children) and the only way I could see any point of entry for anything demonic is that my in laws house sat while we were on vacation this past summer. They are very worldly and my brother in law even bought an occult object a few months ago. I understand that I can’t know for sure what they possibly could have done. But, We had no problems before this summer.

I’m not really sure what to do or think about this. Any advice?

Edit: forgot to add that Ive been having increased spiritual attacks as well on my faith.

I don’t know my priest since we go to the cathedral in town. There’s a different priest each weekend it seems.

Should I just contact the diocese or would that be weird?
 
Even if you don’t know the pastor of your territorial parish, you should be able to speak with him about this. If you contact the diocese directly, they may simply refer you to your pastor anyway.
 
Call the Cathedral office and ask for an appointment with the Rector or Associate Pastor of the Cathedral.

Not weird, but, they are going to send you back to your parish priest. If the Cathedral is your parish, start there.

You could have a priest exorcise your house.
You can call the headquarters of your diocese to ask if a priest is assigned to do exorcisms. Some priests have this special ministry.

Firstly: don’t fret. You’re ok. These things do happen from time to time in my experience, from the information and research I’ve been part of / have been given by priests and exorcists. Don’t fret, it’s the worst thing you can do. I know that’s hard because these can be quite frightening experiences, but do your best to relax and pray. 😁

My friends (atheists) called me about this when they started experiencing very weird things like this happening at our university house. It’d be worth getting a house blessing and see how things go from there. That usually sorts things like this out. I got in touch with my parish priest at my university town, and asked him to come round and do a blessing, he was more than happy. My friends had a really good time afterwards talking to him over tea and coffee me and Fr. had finished the blessing. We did have him round again to do another one a few months later, but it was just grand afterwards.

I’d get in contact with your parish priest (because of how parish territory jurisdictions work, that’s the person who will be helping you anyway - calling the diocese would point you back to him), and ask them to do a house blessing. A priest will not do an minor exorcism straight away - it’d be a highly unusual place to start. Remember, if you own the house, there are also blessings and things you can do, due to domestic jurisdiction (kinda works the same way as dads blessing their kids), so ask the parish priest about instructions for that. If things persist / get worse after a house blessing, get in touch with the parish priest again and discuss if a minor exorcism would be necessary, or whether to try another house blessing.

An exorcist would not be required at this point. Any priest has faculties to perform minor exorcisms without episcopal permission, however, I imagine if the parish priest thought it was truly necessary to have that done, he may well seek advice on his own initiative, or call in someone else.

Also, it goes without saying (and it’s not that I doubt you, at all - like I said, this stuff happened to my friends, then me when I got to the house - and even we sat down together to speak frankly about this): if you feel that your mental welfare / mental health may be at risk, do talk to your spouse, a counsellor or therapist.

Get a priest to bless your home. We had odd things happening in our apartment when I first moved in. After the blessing all odd things stopped.
 
@CradleRC58 This is a minor exorcism, and it’s faculties are restricted to priests ONLY - this website’s information that laity can say it is IMPERATIVELY INCORRECT. The short form is the only form allowed for laity to use and pray.

Please do not be performing minor exorcisms, take it from me, I’ve been there, seen it, and done it. Do NOT get involved, leave that to priests.

It is only forbidden to do it in assembly. Privately, in the home, it is ok. Just don’t assume the role of clergy and attempt to perform exorcisms on others.
(Or recite the lines they would include)

There’s a lot of confusion on the topic. And I agree that the Prayer to Saint Michael is the most common.

I asked two priests about it and both said the same thing. Omit the parts a priest would include and only do it privately in the home.

Having unfortunately failed to watch the above, I’ve just had a poke through my exorcism rituals and manuals, and have come across a few things. In the Manual of Minor Exorcisms for Priests, pp.21-34 and in other documents (other exorcism rituals, manuals, and documents of the CDF) I have to hand, it states that the LAITY ARE IN NO WAY ALLOWED to conduct the Minor Exorcism of Pope Leo XIII, even privately, not because it is imprecatory (imperative), as Prayers of Deliverance may be used in both Imprecatory and Deprecatory froms (though the CDF is largely hesitant to suggest the use of imprecatory prayers), but due to the fact that this prayer is an explicit form of exorcism, and not a deliverance prayer and it therefore commands the authority of the Church. It may not be used, even if only on an object - even privately.

There are deliverance prayers that may be used by laity, and have been wonderfully compiled in the book Deliverance Prayers - For Use by the Laity by Fr. Ripperger. I’d suggest the use of this should the need arise - and even still I do not suggest it (N.B. The PP Leo XIII prayer is not found in there).

I hope I do not appear aggressive or condescending in my writing, I only write with fear and experience, and write sincerely and gravely.

I’m not sure if there are more links to it.

The Fr Ripperger book is a good one and perhaps preferable to the Pope Leo prayer.

And no worries, I know you mean well and after thinking about it, I actually feel the Deliverance Prayers may be a better choice for those in a frightened or uncomfortable state of mind.

Indeed, he compiled one for priests, too - also an excellently compiled book, it’s a shame I wasn’t able to follow up my dissertations with a paper on deliverance prayers using his stuff!

I’d advise, if possible, let people know they do not possess the faculty to recite the PP L XIII prayers privately if you hear about it, I’ve been reliably informed by several exorcist friends that people coming out the other side of it have been in interesting situations afterwards. The deliverance prayers are certainly suitable, do you have a copy yourself? You seem to have heard of it 😃

The computer turning on after hearing a click? My dad’s computer would do that, I finally realized he had a backup to one of those online places set to start in the night. My own computer will do that when I have auto updates turned on. It can also simply be a glitch in your PCs power supply or the cat brushing the mouse thereby knocking the computer out of sleep mode.

Unless a person is a priest, s/he should not be addressing spirits directly or binding them or sending them places.

I agree all this stuff could be totally normal. Computers often turn on and off in the night - it can be as simple as a scheduled update, a glitch, or something in the powersave mode of the computer that causes it to jolt in and out of hibernate or sleep mode, or a faulty power circuit, etc. Because of my job and lifestyle I have a computer in some state of on or hibernate or sleep 24/7 and I have been woken up more than once by it suddenly deciding to come on and play some loud video.

The main issue I am seeing here is that the person posting is feeling disturbed and for that reason I think it would be best if they talked to a priest.

It’s contrary to how I was taught.

By the way, can I just ask so we all know, and sorry if you already posted it somewhere, but are you a priest? You mentioned you were in formation, I saw that.
