If the computer’s anti-virus software has been set to scan at a certain hour during the night, it will come on and do its thing at the preset time. That might have been why you heard it turn on.

The picture that fell off the wall – how securely was it hung? Perhaps the hanging wire slipped off the nail or the hook gave way if the picture was heavy – there are natural reasons why this stuff can happen.

A faucet dripping randomly – if the washer is loose or has a weak spot, water can escape while the spigot is off. These are small plumbing headaches that most everyone experiences from time to time.

I’m not saying your house isn’t haunted – but I would first look into natural causes before consulting a priest. That may be all that has happened, and it will alleviate your fears, if so.

I don’t have a copy but there was one in my local Adoration Chapel I flipped through.

Personally, I just ask the intercession of St Michael and St Benedict when the need arises. I have prayed the Pope Leo prayer a few times without issue, but prefer to trust in St Benedict especially. I wear his medal daily, and recite the exorcism prayer
“Begone, Satan,
Do not suggest to me thy vanities!
Evil are the things thou profferest,
Drink thou thy own poison!”

I recite the Divine Praises often as well.

Don’t think you’re crazy… but I also don’t think any of what you described would have to do with demons or any other presence in your home. All sound like things that could randomly happen with perfectly normal reasons. Faucets do start to drip/leak when parts wear down, you don’t completely turn them off without realizing it, or after so many turns/cranks it needs to be tightened. Pictures falling are also normal - now if 7 of them fell every day for 3 days in a row I’d be concerned. Computers will turn on from sleep mode or the middle of the night if one of your random (and many) programs kick in and knock it out of sleep mode. Many anti-virus scans, as well as ‘checking and downloading the latest updates’ often all scheduled to run by default during times the average person is sleeping. Etc.

Nothing you mentioned sounds like anything serious, and not worth demon-mentioning at any level. However YOU might feel better just by contacting the local parish and asking whichever visiting priest is there at the time to come do a “house blessing” which many people have and many do even when they first move into a home.

🙂

Sweet, I didn’t know there would be chapels that stocked that, quite an odd thing to find there, usually the topic of deliverance isn’t made public insofar as possible!

St Benedict is my patron! An amazing saint!

Love the use of the medal prayer!

“My husband and I are both in the state of grace to the best of my knowledge (and we have no children yet, though we are praying for children) and the only way I could see any point of entry for anything demonic is that my in laws house sat while we were on vacation this past summer. They are very worldly and my brother in law even bought an occult object a few months ago. I understand that I can’t know for sure what they possibly could have done. But, We had no problems before this summer.”

To the OP:

I would mention that when you talk to a priest.

Apologies, my post has been removed. I left a monastery last year. I won’t repeat what I said last time, I imagine it was why it got removed, though I’m not sure why. I hope I haven’t said something wrong

As others posters have suggested, it is a good idea to discuss this with a priest. If you have not had your house blessed ask a priest to bless it. You could also sprinkle Holy Water in each room of your house along with some blessed salt. Pray the St. Michael prayer daily.

A) does the faucet drip ONLY when you pray? No other time? At all? Ever?
B) do you have software running on the computer? Because every so often one of our home computers would suddenly click and wake up. I have no idea why, but it had nothing to do with demons. Computers and printers are mysterious objects that do things mere mortals don’t understand. It’s o.k. That’s how they function.

Also, my daughter accused my son of playing with his computer in the middle of the night because she could hear clicking noises and voices through the wall. He denied that it was him.

Rather than assume they were demons, we realized that one of his computer games allows people to talk to each other online. Sometimes he would forget to mute his machine when he’d go to bed. The voices and clicks were real-world humans.

Given that you’re spooking yourself with thoughts of demonic computers and possessed plumbing, relatives purchasing “occult” objects, and “worldly” in-laws living in your house, it’s no wonder you’re giving yourself bad dreams and health problems.

We once had a ghost, slamming doors, making things fall off shelves and footstep sound in the middle of the night and other strange things, culminating with an old woman gliding from one room into another and vanish. We had a priest come and exorcise and bless the house, after that no more incidents; we think it was a purgatorial soul.
What you are dealing with sounds like something more demonic, which is probably the result of the people you had staying at your home; they may have done a seance or ouija, or worse. Call a priests, if not it may continue and get worse.

I’m not really sure what to do or think about this. Any advice?
Get your house blessed as we all should, and speak to your priest about your spiritual attacks. Spiritual attacks are quite normal in one form or another, especially if we are in a state of grace and the devil is attempting to tempt us. Ignore it, says Pope Francis, just say begone satan and ask Jesus to protect you.
Dreams are just dreams. They do not mean anything except our subconscious working out concepts. Do not put any stock in them

.
You could have a priest exorcise your house.
You can call the headquarters of your diocese to ask if a priest is assigned to do exorcisms. Some priests have this special ministry.
Bless the house, rather then exorcism. For an exorcism to happen, a lot of work must be done before hand. This involves church protocol.
Blessing is simple, Priest comes, blesses the house.

Traditional priests saying the head of the household, as the priest of the home, can say binding prayers
Father Ripperger who is an exorcist, states quite clearly, unless a person or a priest has the authority to exorcise, even with prayers like this, the demons laugh at him and then ignore it. They are sticklers for law, authority and what can and cannot be done and by whom within the church.
This is one big argument for getting things done properly through the correct channels.

Good point, but I heard the mouse click.

What worked for me was whenever an attack occurred I prayed the Rosary, and played it on YouTube on my TV. There are also other Catholic channels with deliverance prayers that play for hours and hours. But the thing that most worked was when rampted up my Catholic duties sacramentally and strengthened my faith in Christ to the point I no longer even noticed it.

Unless a person is a priest, s/he should not be addressing spirits directly or binding them or sending them places.
This in not correct information. I have linked the time stamp where Fr Ripperger discusses this at length (click once on the video and and then again and the video will work). I have used this in the past with instruction from the priest and well before I have heard of Fr Ripperger. It works very well if used correctly.

Fr. Ripperger’s views can be controversial and I do not trust whatever he says on this matter when I have been told otherwise by other Catholic authorities. Having said that, I did not watch the video because this point has been debated on CAF in the past already, as there are various other Catholic priests who have put up websites or videos saying this binding prayer stuff is okay for the laity to say.

I think it’s time to ask a priest to step in here.
@edward_george1 @InThePew

Can one of you priests please comment on whether it is okay for a lay person to bind demons using the words, “I bind” or “We bind” as in:

"In the name of Jesus, I bind all evil spirits to the foot of the cross to be judged by God" *
(the use of “all evil spirits” rather than “Satan” Is typical for Catholic prayers to avoid addressing Satan or demons directly)

Or does it have to be, We ask thee God to bind* all evil spirits to the foot of the cross to be judged by God"?*
(* some variations of this have one asking God to please send his holy legions to do this, or send St. Michael to do this, etc. but the point is one is asking God to do it and not saying “I bind”)

I note that the lay people’s prayers of Auxilium Christianorum, the deliverance group which I believe Fr. Ripperger promotes, actually uses the latter form of the prayers where lay people ask God to bind the evil spirits. I have said these daily prayers regularly from time to time with a devotional group. They have a different form of the prayers for clergy use only.

It has been my understanding that lay people should ask God to bind and not directly say “I bind” or “We bind”.
Clergy (name removed by moderator)ut would be appreciated here…

I, obviously am not a priest. It is my belief that the only demons we have authority to bind , or ask to be bound, as laity, are those of whom we have authority over, given by God. That would be a parent’s authority over children and a husbands authority over a wife. Also we must ask God to bind them for us. We cannot do it ourselves.

We are not church appointed exorcists with authority. Fr Ripperger teaches what I have typed here. He specifically says only those we have any authority over, given by God.

Indeed, this is correct. The last time I posted something like this it was flagged and removed for some reason, I hope that it appears I am only presenting factual information.

The authority works in the same way according to natural law and blessings, so too is it the same with deliverance prayers, explicitly noting that they are not exorcisms. This is by virtue of the law and grace that God has given by virtue of baptism and natural authority.

The ‘I / We bind’ is done ‘in the name of Jesus’ and this proceeds the binding imperative in the prayers. it is an imprecatory form of deliverance prayer invoking Christ which is allowed by canon law and teachings from the Church. The Bishop that gave the imprimatur for the Manual of Minor Exorcisms for Priests wrote quite a bit about imperative prayer, deprecatory prayer and authority in part 1, also noting, as does Fr Ripperger, and personal exorcist priest - monk friends of mine that the long prayer Exorcism of St Michael is certainly not for use by laity. I have seen the recordings of the Chruch’s official exorcism course, their source materials, and resource papers - given to me by said priests and monks - and have spoken to them at length about the topic for my research papers.

I currently have several exorcism and deliverance manuals in front of me, these binding prayers are quite traditional and appear in other places outside of Fr Ripperger’s compilation, too (with imprimaturs and nihil obstats). Although he may be controversial, it’s not just him espousing these teachings and prayers, they are - well, were - known in the church.

I have heard any number of unexplainable things that spooked me over the course of my life. We sometimes think we hear and see things that aren’t there. Pipes creak and snap in a house. The house settles, nails make noises in walls.

You are led to believe that demonic forces are at work, and whether you are right or wrong about that, you ought to be getting professional help, either to deal with the demons or to deal with whatever psychological issues that are going on.
