Hi, I was wondering if anyone on here with some experience with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) could give me some incite into how to help someone with BPD to develop a spiritual life. My wife has BPD and believes everything the church teaches, yet she struggles with prayer. I don’t think she prayers much at all. Before anyone jumps in here and recommends something like the Rosary, please know that wont happen, at least for now. This is a common problem for people with BPD. I need something simple and easy to get the ball rolling for her. I was thinking of trying to find short prayers for our kids for her to recite.

Thanks!

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,
on Earth, as it is in Heaven.

And give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us for evil.

Amen.:signofcross:

Morning offering (where I started):

Good Morning Sweet Jesus! and Blessed Mother too!
All I do today, I do for the Love of You!

I am bipolar… this is the first prayer I prayed daily. I have over the past few years expanded and actually now say a more complicated Morning offering. This one is great though because it is so simple but says so much. I find a morning offering directs and influences all you do all day, even if you don’t immediately recognize it.

God bless you both.

Sorry for the late reply! I was so busy over Thanksgiving! I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving too. I think the morning offering is a great idea, as well as the our father! Ill try and get her to start there. Thanks for the help!

The Jesus Prayer.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner.

It is a large part of eastern Christian spirituality. They repeat it over and over, with the intent to make it part of their every breath and their way of life.

This site helped me a great deal. My mom has BPD and I struggle with similar issues

chastitysf.com/bpd2.htm and chastitysf.com/personality.htm

He’s a catholic psychologist and has some interesting points to make. In the second link he talks about the “personality gifts” that comes with each personality disorder that can lead to virtue.

Hope this helps. I know how BPD can be very difficult.
