Sorta a mix between being Scrupulous and that thing certain Protestant sects do where they chastise everything as inherently Satanic. Or maybe just the latter since that pretty much sums it up.

So is Spiritual Paranoia really something to check or something to hold on to? Even if it results in you fearing that anything could have been cursed by someone a few seconds before you or not wanting to buy anything that’s used because it might have been owned by some “godless heathen,” rigorously praying over your utensils at Applebee’s because a Wiccan busboy might have cursed them, having little Timmy’s Toys-For-Tots gift exorcised because it might have been handled by a Satanist at some point (like say, the truck driver, the guy who bought it, or the person who put it on the truck), living as though everything, EVERYTHING, is after your soul and only your Church and house are safehouses in a sense.

Thank God I’m not that paranoid (I do have occasional paranoia streaks, but they’re not super crippling or exclusively spiritual), but how should one go about fighting that urge to be constantly afraid of absolutely everything? And excluding just the most basic aspects of spiritual warfare like wearing a scapular, praying the Chaplet, trusting Jesus and all that good stuff. That’s all sort of like spiritual hand washing to fight demonic salmonella poisoning. I’m talking about acting as though you feel you need to wear a Divine HAZMAT suit 24/7 to prevent evil infection (…I certainly hope that makes sense, personal hygiene and infectious diseases are the only thing I can think of to use as a metaphor or whatever and I’m not that good at voicing metaphors…or most ideas for that matter. :()

Everything God created is good, orderly, and rational. And His power is infinitely greater than satan’s; and so is yours in a sense; the devil flees as we resist him. (James 4:7) God didn’t create us to be controlled by nonsensical fears.
**“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” ** 2 Tim 1:7

In the first article in the Creed we profess the faith that the Father has created the universe, all things visible and invisible. If we are in a state of grace, then this infinite life of God will be blinding to evil beings; ‘leaning on the everlasting arms’ as one Protestant hymn puts it, we have no cause for fear; if we do, it’s from the superstitions we’ve imbibed by living in a culture which sees God as distant and weak and demons as vital - the reverse of the truth.

I’m not a psychologist, but what you describe sounds like an inability to take risks, or a desire to control one’s surroundings to such an extent that no inherent risk is present in them.

A helpful article that talks (in part) about risk-taking and its relationship with OCD or scrupulosity: ncregister.com/blog/jimmy-akin/6-tools-for-the-scrupulous

The main advice I can give is to seek spiritual counsel. You can ask a trusted priest, “Father, I’m having trouble taking normal, everyday risks, and I would like to trust in the Lord more and learn how to give this suffering to Him as a sacrifice. What would you recommend?”

Learning how to frame the problem is at least the first step in finding a solution.
