Do you read the bible as part of your spiritual reading with the intention to hear God’s personal message to you and spiritual nourishment at one part of the day and read the bible to improve your knowledge of theology at another part of the day?

Hi Augustine,

I read it for spiritual nourishment. I pray a little bit, read the Word and meditate on it for a little bit, and repeat. It’s like having a good conversation with a friend, like a dialogue. I’m sure there are many people who study the Bible, but mostly I just read it during prayer. I’m trying to develop a habit of praying with Scripture in the morning and at night. One of my favorite quotes by Father Larry Richards is, “No Bible, No Breakfast. No Bible, No Bed.”

How much time do you spend with your spiritual reading?
 
It varies. On average, I would say about ten minutes reading and reflecting using Scripture. I also pray the rosary each day. When I come to each mystery, I meditate on it, but I also like to open the Bible randomly and see what God leads me to when I’m praying for a specific person or prayer intention. This practice has greatly enriched my prayer life.

I used to think that God can speak to me but that usually was just me trying to pull my own personal experiences into Gods word and that isn’t true revelation

i think that God plants things into your reason, or gives you better understanding of Jesus, or empowers you, or makes you go wow and want to make you pray, or want to live like Jesus etc.

my favorite aspect about the bible and God is that there has been a few times where God has opened up the Bible to me at scripture that directly applied to where I was in my life, almost like a Father shaking a childs hair and saying things will be ok that is the best part for me,

I have been to some Lectio Devinas with Archbishop Cardinal Collins in Toronto, he reads the word slowly and then lets it plant in his head and he 's able to draw examples of the bible and of Jesus and apply it to today’s time, i suppose that is God
