I’ve been in a spiritual desert for a while — mainly because of a few years of relentless “bad” stuff. At first the issues drew me closer to God, but as the years go on and things don’t improve in my life despite all my best efforts I find myself drifting away.

I’d love to have suggestions on books you may have found helpful in times like that in your life. I’m a reader, and reading and reflecting are where I think I need to start.

He is not Catholic but: CS Lewis, Mere Christianity and Pilgrims Regress.

The Fatima book by the late Fr. Andrew Apostoli is really good. The best Catholic spiritual book I have read in a while. God bless Fr for writing it. You might also check to see if your parish offers Formed.org, lots of resources available on Formed. I especially like the documentaries on the modern day saints. Lastly, if you can afford to break away for a weekend, you might try to go on a private retreat. For me, that’s at Benedictine Monasteries, and they generally have a book store at such places. Lastly, Ignatius has a workbook on the Book of Proverbs that may be helpful. Hope these suggestions are of help. ES

It somewhat on the level you like to read at, perhaps personal tastes is a better phrase to use.

J.P. Causade’s Abandonment to Divine Providence might be good for you.

Ralp Martin’s Fullfillment of All Desire is excellent and has been very popular in the last ten year’s since it came out.

There are many possibilities.
