Between the ages of 14-23 I had a best friend who was Mormon. The friendship ultimately ended a few years ago, but over the course of those years, her family made me participate in Mormon prayers or readings on several occasions. Knowing that under the guidance of the church Mormons are not considered Christians, did I open myself up to being oppressed by evil? I didn’t want to participate but I was cornered. I feel as though my life has been under attack for the last two years ever since the friendship ended. Every part of my life has suffered a blow and I feel like it is more than just a coincidence. Thoughts?

I don’t see any reason that participating in Mormon prayers or readings, especially just a few times, could result in your being oppressed by evil. You don’t give details about what’s gone wrong in your life, so I wouldn’t categorically say it’s not something spiritual. But sometimes bad things happen. It’s life.

No, I don’t believe that you did. Most of the time, the rough spells in our lives have no spiritual cause. If you want to be sure, though, then examine your conscience thoroughly and make a good confession.

We dont like it but the cross is the sign of our discipleship and we get a variety of opportunities to carry it.

The thing is, I don’t think you can escape a spiritual meaning for anything. The whole world is one spiritual saga of good an evil from the beginning of time. And there has been such a drastic attack on my life that I don’t think it’s “just life”. That just seems like an unwillingness to see the effects of spiritual warfare around us.
