Where do I get St. Benedict medals? I have some medals that I got from a Priest that have Mary on them, I am not sure what they are called. (I can’t read the writing on them it is so tiny.) What is the significance of this medal?
I think that the medal that you have is a miraculous medal. Does it look like this?
You can buy St. Benedict Medals through this link for $0.15.

Using an image of Jesus as the Divine Mercy …these are the words of Jesus to St Faustina…

"I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish’’
I also promise victory over enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death…

I Myself will defend it as My own glory (Diary, 48). I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the signature: “Jesus, I trust in You” (Diary, 327).

By means of this Image I shall grant many graces to souls.(Diary 742)

There is much more, however…I think these Words from the Lord are explicit enough.

Here is the link which talks about the origin of the miraculous medal of the Blessed Virgin Mary. amm.org/medal.htm

There is an amazing conversion story related to this medal with regards to a Jewish convert by the name of Alphonse Ratisbone, who used to be a staunch anti-Catholic. His story is in the book “Honey from the Rock”. His friend’s brother, Baron de Bussieres, asks Alphonse to humor him with a simple test: To wear the miraculous medal and recite the Memorare for 40 days, and to let him know if anything happens. It was on the 3rd or 5th day that he saw the apparition of the Virgin Mary. The author of the book also mentioned that the Baron de Bussieres asked a devout Catholic friend, who was on his deathbed, to intercede for the conversion of Alphonse Ratisbone. Alphonse Ratisbone then joined his brother as a Jesuit priest. They then founded an order whose sole purpose is the conversion of the Jews in the Holy Land. They later built a convent on the site of Pilate’s palace where the Jew’s had condemned Jesus, and to undo that past through evangelization of the Jews. angelfire.com/ms/seanie/BVM/ratisbonne.html

That is so awesome. I need one of these!

This anger is now very foreign in it’s approach. I can tell it is a temptation, but as my Priest reminded me, “His grace is sufficient” to overcome it. It almost is feeble at times. The prayer interuptions is a nuisance I overcome with, like you said, short verbalized prayers. Verbalizing the longer prayers helps alot, but it takes a strange kind of willpower to overcome. Like my Priest described letting it wash over me, but I have to hold my breath in a way. It takes some of my own effort combined with giving up. This tells me that it is partly from the self, like I open the door, but it is kicked in once ajar. I think it is something I can overcome with guidance and grace. This is nothing compared to what attacks I once faced. It is now only internal, when once it was manifesting in my surroundings. That has stopped for reasons only God knows fully. Don’t be sad for me, I have been blessed many times over and these things are nothing. I just wanted to share just in case someone finds themselves in a similiar situation. God Bless, Tim
That’s really interesting. You’re not the only one I’ve heard this from. I wonder why it is so hard to pray internally. I need to think about this and do some praying. I wonder if we in this forum can’t give you some ideas.

Maybe it will help to tell you how I can pray for long periods of time? Personally if my intention is to just pray I make sure all the doors are locked and the shades drawn and no tv or radio is on. Then I close my eyes and try to visualize Jesus until it is as clear as if he was in front of me. Then I great him by running and giving him a hug (again visually in my head) and I begin my prayers. Each prayer that I pray I try to visualize something. That way my mind is completely focused on the prayer. I am saying the words and concentrating on visualizing something. I get so focused I don’t hear the phone. Try that maybe…

This sounds like the beginnings of the Ignatian method of prayer which might bring you consolation and produce great fruit. St Ignatius of Loyola is pretty high on my list along with John of the Cross. Why not try and meditate according ot his method?

You mean I am not the first one to come up with this? Huh…For me I get distracted with all my senses so I try to use as many of them as possible in my prayers. I should read about the Ignation prayer method.

As for meditation I am not sure how to do it. The way I understand it your supposed to clear your mind. My mind isn’t clear-able. I can not stop myself from thinking about something. When I try to not think about somthing I am actually thinking about how I am trying not to think about something. Any advice.

The ignatian method uses all of the senses and biblical readings are used. It is an excellent way to learn to meditate and will help you grow until the lord brings you somewhere else. Someone mentioned a spiritual director…this is ALWAYS good advice when one journeys with the Lord. i have had one for 23 years and see him on the whole once a month.

Anyway, here is a book written by Fr Thomas Green SJ that I have used also and it might be the better one before getting into the heavy stuff from St Ignatius himself. Something to talk to your director about. Here it is: amazon.com/Vacation-Lord-Personal-Directed-Retreat/dp/087793343X/ref=sr_1_1/002-7406293-4368829?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189893088&sr=1-1

How do you get a spiritual director?
Hello Sarah,
Code:
I would look into one of two options. There are others, however...
you could approach a religious community, monastery or other and ask them about the possibility of having a spiritual director. They would know which priests are available for this kind of work. There are some priests who are gifted by God with a great amount of discernment and are well suited to direct and guide souls on their journey with God. Sometimes priests in religious communities are spiritual directors for people outside the community. This is my personal choice, btw, my spiritual guide is a member of a closed community dedicated to prayer and living under the Rule of St Benedict.

you could ask your parish priest… if he is not available, he could direct you to a priest whom he would recommend…

I hope this helps, Sarah, may God bless your search.
