ok here goes…

when we make a spiritual communion…do we receive any or all of the same graces that we would receive from receiving sacramental communion?

how often can we make a spiritual communion?

can we offer up our spiritual communion for others, or prayer intentions or the holy souls?

By spiritual communion, are you speaking in the sense of attending mass and not receiving the Holy Eucharist, or in another context? I am a bit confused as to your wording and wanted to make sure things were clear before, if I am able to, I could offer any thoughts.

If you mean in the sense of attendance at mass, the way non-Catholic Christians are invited to participate in while Catholics in good standing receiving the Eucharist, then there is some grace attached to the sacrament of attending Mass, but you do lose out on the benefits gained by receiving the Body and/or Blood of Our Savior. That is why it is important to go to confession (more grace!) as soon as possible after committing a mortal sin, so that you can repair that relationship with God and receive Christ in the Eucharist.

If I am going at this from the wrong direction, please explain further and I will do my best to help!

i mean by praying the following prayer:

Spiritual Communion Prayer
Code:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.

That appears to be a prayer said for those Catholics not in the state of grace during the the Eucharist. However, a prayer like this can be said anytime, particularly when one feels the need for grace. Say you had the desire to go to daily mass but your work schedule won’t allow - this would be a great prayer to start your mornings with.

Isn’t that the prayer they say when you’re watching the Mass on EWTN?

Its for the viewers who are not present physically at the Mass.

You can make a spiritual communion many, many times a day, any time you desire to increase your union with our Lord. Many people make a special effort to do so. I know one person who has a few of those small round white stickers that would mark a file folder stuck in various places around her workspace to remind her subtly, since it’s similar in appearance to the Host. Seeing the full moon does the same for me. And passing by a Catholic church and its tabernacle…

Here’s one act of spiritual Communion that’s short and sweet:
I wish, my Lord, to receive You with the purity, humility and devotion with which your most holy Mother received You, with the spirit and fervor of the saints.

when we make a spiritual communion can we offer it up for the holy souls like we could if we had sacramental communion?

i think its awesome that we can make spiritual communions, we can receive jesus hundreds of times a day…its great!!!

the spiritual communion prayer that I pray is this ‘Dear Lord though I cannot receive you sacramentally I ask you with a heart full of longing to come spiritually into my soul’.

you can offer this prayer for yourself for other or for the holy souls. as far as i understand it when you pray this prayer you receive the same spiritual graces as if you had received communion but it is not meant to replace it. 👍

wow isnt that fantastic…if people really realized it they’d be making countless spiritual communions a day!!!..im gonna start making them so i can offer them up or the holy souls!!
