Hi, recently I have been sufferring from spiritual dryness, I recently enrolled into college to study Theology, and well…I dont know if its too much study of one thing or not. I’ve had it for quite some months now. I find myself forcing myself to pray and go to mass, but feel nothing. It is not nice and I ask for all my fellow prayer warriors to really pray hard for me. I dont usually ask for prayer on this forum or forums at all for my intentions.

Thank you for your much needed prayers,

Pax Christi

I hate spiritual dryness. It is the one thing, after unprovided death,
that I fear most. I have been going through it a lot lately. One day I can
pray and another can’t. I will pray for you even though today is a can’t day.

GOD will in HIS unknown ways put dryness into souls as HE has for many saints. Struggle to make a good morning offering, and then the dryness becomes prayer in itself, as it is part of your suffering. And when you can no longer pray, you can say but one word, “JESUS”, and if you cannot even say that, you can think “JESUS”, and HE will do the rest.

for you Julian,

ACT OF FAITH
O my God, who are infallible Truth and can neither deceive nor be deceived, I firmly believe all that you have revealed and propose to my belief though your holy Church, because you have revealed it. I believe that you are one in nature and three in Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I believe that you are the Creator of all things and that you reward the just for all eternity in heaven and punish the wicked for all eternity in hell. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God made man, that he suffered and died for my sins and rose from the dead in glory, and that it is only in him through the Holy Spirit that eternal life is given to us . I believe in all that your holy Church believes. I thank you for having called me to the true faith, and I propose that with the help of your grace I will live and die in this holy faith. Amen.

I feel the same way- lost my father last month and long relationship at the start of the year. I am empty and don’t want to do anything at all. For what its worth, coming from my own emptiness, I do pray you will return to wholeness in the Lord.

Praying from today’s Liturgy of the Hours:

Open our eyes today:
make us perceive your wonders.
– Lord, we praise you; in you we hope.

Lord, please help Stephen to persevere in prayer despite the aridity he is experiencing. Now is the time for him to love You above the gifts You give him and for him to let You do more profound work in his soul. He can prove his love for You by still making time every day to be with you, even if he can’t speak a word. Just his keeping You company and honoring You in this way is a wonderful prayer for You, indeed. Help him to know that You are pleased much more by a soul who perseveres in times of aridity than a soul who prays all day amid consolations. Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer. Amen.

The brain has the ability–one sector of it anyway–to “feel” religious stimulation and exaltation and connectedness with God. Brain damaged individuals are bereft of this consolation. I would suggest that stress or allergens or other brain issues may cause the effect of spiritual dryness. I have a friend that takes Nasalcrom for brain stem swelling, for example, a result of a mold allergy. So this can happen to anyone anywhere anytime.

Another spiritual explanation is paradoxical. A kind of oppression of demonic pestering is ameliorated or avoided by God “disappearing” into one’s being, not abandoning you. It’s like God is right there up to the edge of your skin and no further to keep you from being a hard target of demonic pressure, a likelihood in your theology studies. I note that, years ago, a local Christian home for unwed mothers interviewed two clients on their tv show and both had fled satanist groups that prayed and fasted against specific Christian groups and churches. They are hard at work. Didn’t Bishop Sheen mention a plane ride seated next to a witch fasting and praying against upcoming Easter rites? I beg St. Michael to array his angels against the demons and give you back your breathing space. Blessings!

Dear Father in Heaven look on your servant Stephentlig and release his spirituality to know the joys of worshiping you, to having a relationship with you, to let him know You are listening to him. In Christ’s name. Amen. A Hail Holy Queen, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and a Fatima Prayer.

Holy Father, this world sometimes weighs us down and causes us to be unable to see the greatness of your glory in our lives. Lift for Stephen the veil Lord, that he may see your Glory. That he may see you working in his life, That he may have openess to your love and your touching his life. We need you Lord God in our lives, we are weak and but dust. Revive our hearts Lord. Work in Stephen, work in us all. Praise you Lord God through Jesus Christ your son…and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thank you for your much needed and undeserved prayers, I am most unworthy of them.

I will keep you in my prayers also. Please continue to pray for me as I’m in much need of it.
