How would one go about asking a priest to become their spritual director? I am thinking of asking my parish priest because the bishop said he will be staying for an extended six years while we have construction going on so he will be at my parish until I graduate High school. He is also a very holy man. He is very funny but he knows the time for jokes and he is very wise. I am a very shy person so I was thinking of leaving him a message but I don’t really know what to say. Please help!

Make an appointment to see him and simply ask him if he would be your spiritual director. You might want to think ahead of time about why you are looking for a spiritual director or what you hope to gain from spiritual direction so that you can give him more information.

Parish priests tend to be very busy so don’t be upset if he is unable to say yes. He may be able to suggest someone else who could be your director.

Pray over this very carefully and, yes, make an appointment. Explain to him that you are also discerning a vocation to the priesthood and would like for him to serve as your mentor.

It is good that you are taking the leap and wanting to get your own spiritual director. Kids your age, especially those who are trying to nurture a vocation, get bombarded with all sorts of things these days. Having a solid guide will help you wade through the mess and further solidify your vocation.

So basically the message went:

“Hi Fr! This is jude. I am seeking spiritual direction in my life right and was wondering if you could give me a call back 555-5555. god bless!”

I had a priest in mind for my spiritual direction that helped me VERY much in Confession. He gives me such valuable advice that really helps me. The penances are VERY helpful too. He just understands what I need. I decided to ask him to be my spiritual director, but at the time, he referred me to the Social Ministries Coordinator of the diocese who was a Sister. She no longer works there though, so I asked him again, if he knew anyone that could help. That’s when he offered to help me! Sometimes it takes persistence, like my case. I get to meet with my SD for the first time on Thursday! 😃 Hope you get the one you want, but sometimes, God has other plans, as I have so often learned. LOL! :blessyou:
