My Mum was disapproving of my father spitting, he did smoke…

and still does…

I live in the same house with him and I have a worry over this issue since I dont want to consume anything bad into mybody, I find myself spitting… and Im sorry… its not nice…

I know that throwing up is a sign of martydom I do this also… Im not sure Ive explained this bit right but what I mean is smoking acceptable at home? Esp. since I have put some HOLY WATER in the DINNING ROOM THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN RIGHT>???

WELL THATS MY UNDERSTANDING OF THINGS. THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO STAMP OUT SMOKING, ITS ALREADY BANNED IN ONE EUROPEAN COUNTRY.

THANKYOU, ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED…

Throwing up is not a sign of martyrdom. If you are making yourself throw up by sticking your finger in your throat, then you are not a martyr, you are crazy. If you are throwing up on accident, then you are sick and you need a doctor.

Holy Water is not magic. Who is to say that putting holy water in the dining room will make your father stop smoking? What if the holy water only protects you from demons but does nothing to make anyone stop smoking?

My advice: MOVE OUT AND FIND A PLACE OF YOUR OWN TO LIVE.

Wow, when I first read spitting, I was thinking about actual spitting - not related to tobacco. That would be a little weird.

Anything that takes control of us is a vice. Anything that controls us and hinders our ability to concentrate on our walk with God is wrong. Anything that we do that has been shown to lead to cancer - especially a disfiguring cancer - is very unwise.

Stop now. You are young and should still have a chance of regaining your will power.

When you say “spitting”, do you mean that you spit excess saliva from your mouth or that you use smokeless tobacco? If it’s the latter, even though you do not consume chewing tobacco, the chemicals still enter your body through the gums.

Dear Apollos,

Firstly Id like to say that I follow Peter. I think you might need to Apollogise. Just an idea of mine.

I heard it was a sign of Marterdom, since a married couple might experience this affect if in love. (again just my take on it)… The body rejecting natural resources is a sign of something. Your right go see a doctor, but I have my faith, I feel better, as the NJB says, if you’ve beaten too much, put your finger down your throwt i.e. go an thrown up. Well I am an adult now, so Im cool with it. IT happens to many Mental Health patients… I know at least 2 others in their 50’s still throwing up. Ever get up in the morning, feeling sick? Its the same feeling… What does the LORD say, I desire Mercy not sacrifice, HOS 6:6 see Nkjv and NJB.

You should regard that which is blessed by others as something HOLY. Dont like your language referring to the blessed sacrament. Water is sacred.

Its not what I am inferring, by putting water there, I did so for the essence of GOd to fill the room and IT Has Done, the LORD has blessed the Room as a Direct result. ! !

You need to stop talking about Demons, Seek first his kingdom i.e. give alms and all things will be clean to you…

Kindest regards,

Mark

when i was young, we were told not to spit after Mass when you receive communion. you might spit Jesus out.

Uh, yeah making yourself throw up is a sign of mental illness, not of martydom. It is called Bulemia. It is an illness. You can do some serious damage to your body if you persist in making yourself throw up. If you know 2 others, it just means they also suffer from this mental illness. It certainly does not mean they are holy! Sheesh!

Seriously, buddy, if you are making yourself throw up, that is NOT normal, NOT holy, and is an abuse of your body. Dare I say it, making yourself vomit is probably a sin, because you are abusing your body.

Complications from bulemia include:
  • Dental cavities, loss of tooth enamel, enlarged salivary glands, and scars on the knuckles may be present as a result of chronic self-induced vomiting.
  • Signs of malnutrition or dehydration may be present including dry skin, changes in the hair and nails, swelling of the lower legs and feet, or loss of sensation in the hands or feet.
No married couples I know make themselves throw up.

And the body rejecting “natural resources” - is called getting sick. It happens sometimes, but no rational, sane person looks FORWARD to vomiting. It is usually a virus, food poisoning, or pregnancy hormones that make one vomit.

And BTW, the Bible nowhere says to make yourself throw up.

He may be thinking of Proverbs 23:2.
This talks of putting a knife to one’s throat for gluttony. Says nothing about sticking fingers down one’s throat to vomit.

So I repeat…the Bible does NOT tell us to vomit food.

So again, if the OP feels the need to or makes himself (herself?) vomit, s/he must see a doctor. This is not normal, nor is it “holy”. It is disordered and an illness of some sort. God does NOT tell us to stick a finger down our throats! That is just not normal.

Dear friend,

Thankyou for your concern and wonderful comments, I shall like to let you know, I have close to none of the mentioned side effects you mentioned in relation to the illnes… These could be and very well used to be, side effects of the medication I was taking. But my nurse says since they cannot trace this, i.e that my throwing up patterns are irregular then, I quote, " Its not the mediaction" I beg to diff still on this matter but all is in hand. Again once I have heard it mentioned (early church father - ST, Cyprian) that this is a sign of Martyerdom.

By the way I try not to force myself, but if I do feel sick the best thing to do is to throw up. Im not talking about Proverbs 23, I found it elswhere in the WORD, try ECCLESIASTICUS Im not sure, sorry dear beloved…

So it is up to YOU to prove where in the Bible it says vomiting is a sign of martydom. I will be you cannot!

If you feel like throwing up often, you are either pregnant, allergic to something, or sick. Either way, GO TO A DOCTOR. It is not normal, nor admired, to throw up a lot. Gross. And unhealthy.

Listen,

I want to Apollogise about saying what I said earlier, It is enough to put my hand by my own side.

I’ll leave it as a secret thing.

Thankyou for all your reponses, please do not be offended at anything I have said… I will apollogise also… sorry.

Im not sure what my opinion on the doctors is here, the spelt my name wrong in one instance…!

Praise be to GOD forever and EVER.
Amen.

In the Protestant Word it says, (effectively) “if the person who eats with you, his heart is not with you, then you will throw your food back up” I think its in proverbs… try king James… sorry about the vagueness,

brother Mark

Leaving making yourself vomit as a secret thing makes it doubly wrong! Get help! This is NOT normal, nor is it “holy”. It is an illness, a sickness.

Doctors are human - they don’t all spell well, especially names! See one. Get help.

My PC is protected by K9 Virus Checker, and also, I can recommend the HIGHEST SETTING…

Just wanted to let you know I had a second Baptism in 2008… E=MC2 Emsi tree (second washing in Assyian) since the book of TOBIT was missing for most of my life I recite the Apostles creed as Remission of sins at the moment, but I feel convicted…, I might speak in deed regardig this prayer, I said both last time, “forgivness as well”,; “forgiven”… it made a difference.

Thankyou once more for standing by me. Amen.
