Splash mountain pregnant

No, disney advises not to ride if you are pregnant, sorry but it’s not a good idea that she goes on it. The ride it’s self is easy going but the big drop is the problem, she can go on its a small world 😊

My husband and I went to Disney World (Florida) while I was pregnant (1982-wow, that was a long time ago). We thought the park was boring. We actually were more impressed with the singing animals at the local Chuck E. Cheese than we were with the animated creations at Disney World.

And when we saw how many little ones in those loooooooooonnngggggg lines were crying and begging to go back to their hotels to swim in the pool, we vowed that we would never bring children to Disney World. And we didn’t. It costs too much, the lines are too long, and giant Mickey Mouses are not nearly so appealing as the cartoon Mickey.

Some to think about, I love in Florida and have access to the parks but refuse to go. Orlando is a popular place for tourists from all over the world and I personally would be afraid to go into a park with this Ebola diease out there… Just saying…

Yes, we’ve been to both and Disneyland is much smaller and more manageable. Between the two parks, I would vote for Disneyland and California adventure. I know some really love Disney and get into it like you saw with girls dressing up. I get tired of the hype of the place though.

Those types of warnings are there for a reason. I just don’t think it is worth it if one is pregnant.

I think that’s human nature. It would be my reaction. I do agree with what you said.

I also want to add that Splash Mountain is awesome. My wife isn’t big into Disney, and I’m not really either, but I sure do love that ride and I don’t know why. (I am late 30s and have loved it since it opened). Those bars must be new - I went 5 years back and during the electric light parade, the whole place was empty. They didn’t even make me get off splash mountain, so I think I rode it 6-7 times consecutively (Yep, all by myself, wife wouldn’t get wet at night in October) without even getting out of the “log.” 😛
 
I think that the concern with riding rough rides while pregnant has to do with the possibility of sudden jolts can possibly cause a placental abruption which is dangerous for mom and baby. I don’t think it’s worth the risk.

I do think, however, that your wife can have a great time at Disney World even if she can’t ride the rough rides. It’s absolutely impossible to do “everything” on one trip anyway. She can enjoy the shows, parades, character meals/greets, even milder rides like “It’s a Small World” or Dumbo. Those would be fine, I think. Most of the “rides” there aren’t going to be any more rough than a car ride. And you can always plan another trip when baby is a bit older and can enjoy the park too.

I also think that because this trip seems to be for her, if it turns out she shouldn’t ride, you should reschedule the trip for after the baby is born and she’s recovered.

I have postponed the trip for as long as I can. I don’t want to go! But she does want to go and take the kids. The trip is really for the kids because what person in their right mind goes to that petri dish of a county fair called Disney?! She is having a bad pregnancy, she is working really hard and is on the verge of completing her masters. She has a one week break between classes and has the vacation time to take off work. So this is what she wants. But I think no way on the splash mountain ride.😉 She was currious what everyone would say. I told her most people would say listen to the medical professional who said listen to Disney’s recommendations.😃

It does not help her case that she has had a rough go of it this time and potential bloodclots are an issue (she is on blood thinnners) I told her she had to get the Midwife’s ok to even go on the trip, which she promptly did. Part of the reason though that I feel like we have to go is that she has really been a trooper this year. And she and the kids deserve it.

I have also thought about that. However the media has lost all credibility with these "wolf Cry " stories. Bird flu, etc. There is always some horrible disease and then nothing happens. 🤷 While I don’t want to downplay the threat, I think any Ebola argument would fall on deaf ears in my family as I am the alarmist and my wife barely knows who is in the white house…
I will load up on the hand sanitizer though…
 
Honestly the warning on splash mountain is a very CYA warning. Up until 3 years ago there were not even lap bars/restraints- the only reason the restraints are there is to keep people from jumping into the scenery.

Same for the safari ride at Animal Kingdom. There’s a pregnancy warning because of the live animals on the safari, and they don’t want to be sued for a pregnancy death if an animal charges.

I’d be more concerned about a 16 hour car ride with someone prone to clots than I would be with Splash Mountain, to be honest.

I thought I would give everyone an update. We got back this weekend. We had a blast! The trip down was indeed long but the kids and the wife were real troopers. We did decide to break the trip up into two days on the way back. Day one at the beach was amazing and then day two was Disney. We were the second car in the parking lot. We rode all the rides that all of us could ride first. Peter Pan, Small world, dumbo, teacups, monsters inc, etc. Then we waited for story time with belle and it was worth the wait. The 7 and 9 year old and I went on space mountain and I HATED it but they loved it. We all were shaking at the end. My 7 year old barely made the height requirement and they probably should have said “no” I think she almost fell out.:eek:

I told my wife not to go on splash mountain and I am glad I did. She saw the drop and immediately agreed. I took the 4,7 and 9 year old on the ride while she got ice cream. There were several “falls” and then the big “fall.” The bar across the belly smashed into my stomach quite hard several times and actually left a mark. ( I have the build of a moderately pregnant woman.:o) I can say for certain that we made the right choice.

The day was way more “magical” than I imagined and we all left completely exhausted and satisfied. I was against the trip from the start but it ended up being amazing. And my kids were amazingly behaved the whole time! What a good experience! And now we don’t have to worry if we could have harmed the baby.

Awwww!

I hope you get to go back sometime soon! Any time any grandma or grandpa wants to send us to Disneyland or Disneyworld, I am willing to make the sacrifice.

Glad you all had a great trip. You were quite a trooper to drive all that way for just one day at the Magic Kingdom!!! It sounds as if you made the most of your time there, though, and I am glad your wife didn’t ride Splash Mountain; I was just about to post that it was a bad idea, when I saw that you were already home!

We live about 8 hours and one state away, and will be heading there the week before Thanksgiving; our daughter, her 3 year old, 3 month-old and I will be combining several days in Disney World with a convention DD is attending in Orlando. We are most fortunate in that we have a very good friend who is a Disney “Character” who gets us big discounts on the hotels and often gets us into the parks for free with her passes. As crazy expensive as Disney is, thank God for her; I hope she works there forever!

I hope that you get to go back and experience all the parks; we love World Showcase in Epcot, and the little ones are crazy about the Animal Kingdom. Hollywood Studios is fun, and they have a truly spectacular Christmas display, including a beautiful Nativity scene.

Sounds like it worked out well, with your wife agreeing that it was a bad idea. Saved you from having to be the bad guy here.

It’s great that the whole family had a good time–Space Mountain left my parents sick the first time we all went :). And how blessed you must feel to have a wife who can change her mind and walk away from the ride she thought she wanted–some people might not be so mature 🙂
