I agree. I don’t like the fables that media sources try to create though with all the “13’s” for whatever reason. They had me chasing my own tail there for a minute but I can see right through the lies.

There’s only 1 obelisk that the Vatican has… And it’s the coolest one. 👍
Another reason why The Vatican is cool. 🙂

How can Vatican be cool since it was a necropolis? St Peter’s basilica is built on the blood of Peter, as the entire Church is built upon the blood of the martyrs. Their blood that was shed because of Christ, whose precious blood cleansed us from sin. Our faith is built upon the shedding of blood and sacrifice. I don’t find that cool. It is worthy of admiration and it is worthy to give your whole life to Christ, but certainly not cool. Cool does not have a place in the language of Catholic faith.

Adawgj and I were in another thread where I initiated all this “cool” talk, so it was more like an inside joke thing I think. But don’t you think it’s just a little bit cool though…? 🤷

I mean the whole layout of Vatican City, the architecture, the statues of saints and past popes… It is the Churches home base, with many relics. To me that’s cool. Second place is a tie between the Sedlec Osuary and the Papal Palace in France -and the Sedlec Osuary is made solely of the bones of martyrs.

And when you think about it, as beautiful as architecture and art may be, it pales in comparison to that which it represents, the beauty of the afterlife, the heavenly Jerusalem.
I didn’t meant to upset you. It was a slap from me to me. When I become tempted to think Catholicism is cool, because it is great how every piece falls together in our faith, I think of the Passions of our Lord that brought us this beauty. Yeah, I know, I’m weird. :hypno:
Everything we have in the Church is built upon sweat, tears and blood of the saints and martyrs. The Church is to administer all of these, for generations to come. The best for our Lord!
To all who would affirm that the Vatican should sell any of it’s prized possessions, I say: Don’t fall in the trap Judas did, who knew the price of everything and the value of nothing, to quote a great and venerable bishop, namely Fulton Sheen.

Lighten up. It is cool that our faith and the physical structure of the Vatican is built upon such a strong foundation, the martyrs.

Then as a community we pool our money together to help the poor, not build more glamour and cathedrals. 👍
Your argument strikes me alot like those who objected to the anointing of Christ, saying that the money would be better used for the poor.

I once read that if the Church sold everything it had, it would keep the world’s poor in McDonald Hamburgers for only a matter of weeks.

Alot of Cathedrals and Catholic Artwork in general are priceless. But they were not priceless when created. My point is that a Cathedral with it’s stained glass windows and things such as the Sistine Chaptel ceiling are worth far more today than the actual cost to build them.

BTW, where are you getting your monetary figures? Do you know the actual cost of various Cathedrals or how they may have detracted from the economy? You just cannot go by today’s value since they are essentially artwork. Some great artist paints a painting for the Church, gets paid x-number of dollars, the painting is now priceless far in excess of original cost, so it is now imperative that the Church sell the painting and give the funds to the poor?

Also have to factor that the cost was often spread out over many years and generations.
