Hello All…

I want to take this oportunity to ask the following (I posted a thread on it but I am not sure if I did it correctly and thus if it will be posted -first time user here-)…
So the question is:
Are the 40 days of Lent untill Good Friday or Easter Sunday?

Thank you!
Have a Blessed Lent everyone!
Regards,
Fernando.

From what I understand Lent is comprised of the days from Ash Wednesday up to Holy Thursday. The Triduum isn’t part of the ‘normal’ days of Lent. Also, Sundays are excluded from the fasting days as well.

Yep, all Sunday’s are like mini-Easters (although we still omit the Gloria because of the penitential nature of the season).

Not only do you not fast on Sunday, it would be inappropriate to fast on Sunday. You should celebrate a little on Sunday. If you gave up something for Lent, indulge a little bit (if it’s something not bad for you. If you gave up smoking or something addictive, you should not be indulging in that), like having a beer if you gave that up for Lent.

Depends on how you look at it.

If you count out the days starting with Ash Wednesday at Day 1, then Day 40 will fall on Saturday, April 7 (the day before Easter). (Sundays are not included in the count.)

However, the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday) is not considered part of Lent.

I personally consider Lent to be through Holy Saturday, with the understanding that the Triduum is a special case.

In my pre-Vatican II instruction, the sister said that Lent ended at noon on Holy Saturday. If you count the days between Ash Wed. and Easter Sun. [inclusive] you will come up with 47 days. Subtract Sundays and you come up with 40 days. Of course, all this might have been changed by some “ministers of the ‘liturgy’” just to introduce something of some meaning only to those who crave change for change sake.

I don’t think so. We have to remember Jesus’ Resurrection sometime in the midst of all of the focus on his Passion. 🙂
