SPLIT: 42 years in a civil marriage

I have recently returned to the Church after being away for 50+ years. I went to Confession on the day before Palm Sunday and have been several times since. My Confessor gave me absolution for “all the sins of my past life”. I told him I was concerned about the completeness of my Confession after trying to inventory my sins for 50+ years. He told me I shouldn’t worry, I now have a clean slate with God and should do my best to keep it that way. I have received Communion every Sunday since. Now I have stumbled on your comments ref Catholics with civil marriages being denied Communion. My first marriage was anulled (after an 8 year wait!). My 2nd wife (Catholic) and I were married by a judge (with 2 Catholic witnesses) 5 years before the anullment was granted. We have been married 42 years. I want to have our marriage blessed by the Church, but my wife e ridicules me about “finding” God and is not interested in having our marriage blessed. My Confessor was aware of my marital status. I find it odd that if I am not able to receive Communion that he did not warn me about that. Am I able to receive Communion?

Talk to your pastor about radical sanation to see if it is a possibility since your wife is uncooperative regarding simple convalidation/ Yes, it is odd that your confessor did not give you proper instruction in the matter and help with your marriage situation. Also talk to your pastor about the reception of communion. We are not in a position to tell you yes or no as we do not have all the facts.
