How full is “full of grace”?
The only person said to be full of grace or faith in the bible is Stephen, you know that don’t you?
Just because the church calls Mary full of grace doesn’t mean Jesus or any of his apostles ever said it.

The archangel Gabriel greeted her, “Hail, Full of Grace.” He used it as her name. And even if he hadn’t, you still have to wonder how God could dwell in a woman for 9 months who had the stain of sin on her soul. God made it pretty clear that He can only dwell where purity allows. That is biblically supported.

I often hear Protestants refer to our Mother as simply Mary, a vessel God used to bring Jesus into the world. Others have actually gone to the point of saying “Why pray to Mary, she’s dead?”

I could almost scream at the lack of respect Mary recieves from from them. Paul is given much more respect than the Blessed Mother of God by them.
George
George the Mary of catholocism, and of protestants are clearly 2 different beings.
You can not say we disrespect her, as much as I can say you disrespect our Lord. I almost scream at the lack of respect because of her.

Ours a humble obedient of our Lord and Saviour.

Yours the mother of God, sinless, omnipotent, mediatrix, queen of heaven, and in my opinion (Edited as offensive) draws attention away from Christ.

Martin, I recommend you check out St. Louis De Montfort’s “True Devotion to Mary”. You’ll see that many (not all) Protestants have made the unfortunate error of being “scrupulous devotees”, somehow believing that any ‘honor’ (and it is honor, not worship) that is given to Mary (and later by extension to any saints) is somehow ‘taking the honor from Jesus.’

As though there was a finite amount and capacity for love in individuals, and that giving ‘some’ love to somebody means you are ‘depriving’ somebody else.

Really, such people don’t realize how remarkably small minded and petty they are, how Pharisitical. “ONLY focus on Jesus”–because, heaven forbid, if we acknowledge that He had a mother we are not focusing “just on Him” anymore! Stop any ‘wandering’ right in its tracks–let’s not even think of Mary, or anybody else. Why think about other people? We should only be focusing on JESUS!

“ONLY focus on Jesus”–don’t give any words of love to anybody else. Don’t acknowledge the existence of anybody else. Don’t give anything at all to anybody else. … because if you do, you’re ‘stealing it from Jesus.’

Problem is, Jesus Himself was the first to tell us that the way of life–which is He Himself–is not, and never to be, taken just ‘for ourselves’. The way always lies in service to others.

So, these “Only focus on Jesus” people are (hopefully unconsciously) attempting to limit Jesus, and to limit themselves and others.

James speaks of those who come upon their fellow men, poor, and starving, and who greet them cheerfully with “goodluck, stay warm and well fed” while doing nothing else. Oh, these people are focused on Jesus, all right. They’re following all the motions. They aren’t actively taking away food or clothing from these poor people. And they are thinking of them too with earnest care. . .they want good for them. They just don’t want to have to take away precious time to focus on Jesus in oder to deal with the drab, mundane needs of people who probably look unhealthy or unsavory. These “focused Christians” of James are probably so wrapped up in making sure that they focus on Him and don’t give any undue love, or honor, or care, to anybody else, that they don’t notice they have completely lost sight of the Jesus who lives in those poor and starving people.

Stephen on the other hand I can find a few times so its not like it wasn’t a used phrase.

Wow, all those translations yet remarkably you missed the Douay Rheims “Hail, full of grace” Here you go, Luke 1 28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail,* full of grace*, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.

not to mention the original Greek which translates to full of grace.

Hi myfavoritmartin,

You left a version of the Bible out, the Douay-Rheims:
Luk 1:28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

We have ‘versed’ you. You may apologize to dalafax now for doubting.

Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

“Full of grace” is used as Mary’s name/title. What else?

What else was Gabriel trying to do, if not call Mary herself, “full of grace”?

Hi Tantum Ergo,

Sorry about joining you with the same post. Seems like we both posted at the same time.:o

is it me or is post 34 in direct violation of the forum rules?

To call her a work of Satan?

I am reporting this.

Guess I should have kept checking, figured a dozen bibles all saying the same thing pretty much proved it…
I personally have never seen a D/R bible, I thought the cath bible was NAB? or something similar, at least the one I own is.

Incidentally I was busy working on the greek translation, though I agree the word grace may be infused, **full of **comes neither from greek or latin translation.

I have just reported this inflammatory comment to the mods.

I have no words to describe the horror of this post.

In my opinion. Is a person not entitled to post an opinion?
I didn’t say she was.
No opinions would make this a pretty boring place to hang out…,

Hi again myfavoritmartin,

I would like to ask you this question if I may please.
Do you consider the Cross of Christ with reverence? How about the Holy Bible?

Meditation and honor of every aspect of Jesus’ life draws us closer to Him. Just as the Cross is a part of Jesus’ life, so to me is Mary. As the Cross is the means His life was taken, Mary is the means His life was given.

None of these aspects of Jesus’ life takes focus away from Him, but rather brings us closer to Him through knowledge of His life and teachings. That is the path to our salvation, the life and belief (total trust) of Jesus.
Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son: much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Nothing to do with Satan here, just honor to the entirety of Jesus’ life.

With love,
George

George, I know its nothing to do with satan in your faith and obedience. I was making the point that satan throughout time puts up big and beautiful things that we revere greatly, for one purpose. To draw away from Christ.
The bible is a book. The cross is a declaration of faith in Christ.

You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. Protestantism is not the work of God. It is a johnny-come-lately movement that surfaced over a millenia after Christ ascended into heaven. It claims to go by Scripture, but cannot figure out what that Scripture is saying, hence the large and diparate number of Protestant denominatins. This confusion does not have its origin in God because God is not the author of confusion.

The Protestant Reformation was the 16th century version of the rebellion of Korah. Like Korah, the Protestant reformers had the presumption to think that they knew more about the Word of God then the teaching authority established by God Himself. And yet, Luther, Zwingli, Calvin and the Anabaptists all disagreed with each other and their followers persecuted each other. Mind you, this is all within three decades after the 95 Theses. The work of God? Obviously not! If it’s not of God, then whose work is it? I leave that to you to figure it out.

God bless,
Michael
