SPLIT: Dispensation so 1st cousins can marry?

my boyfriend is my first cousin means he is my mother’s elder brother’s son. so me and my boyfriend share the same grandparents. so could you explain whether a dispensation is allowed for me? is we both counted as first degree? first degree usually can’t get dispensation right? im really confused… i need explanation and clarification. i’m really eagerly looking forward to the answer. in what way i can get a dispensation? what am i should tell to my bishop so he can grant a dispensation? plz some one explain…

I would certainly discuss this with your bishop or at least with a priest and go from there.
 
Yes, the son of your mother’s brother is your first cousin.

Where do you live, please? If it’s the USA, first cousin marriage is actually illegal in some states.
 
This is not a good idea. Though some states allow this I can hardly believe the Church does and if she does I find it awful. Sorry.

On a simple genetic level you are opening yourselves up to some real problems. If there are any inherited disorders that run in your family, that are related to double recessive genes, you are increasing your chances of having children with these disorders. I just can’t see how this is a sound, healthy thing to do.

You really need to talk to your Bishop, Priest or whoever. But you had both become much more informed about genetic issues in your families and seek some advise from those trained in these matters. I really don’t see this as a normal situation for marriage.
 
You need to talk to the bishop or the person he designates in the archdiocese for such matters. A dispensation will probably not be given if it violates state law. Even if a dispensation can be given, this doesn’t mean that it will be in the case of first cousins.
 
There is a dispensation from the bishop called a “Dispensation from Consanguinity.” It can be given by the bishop, but you will need to petition for it. Usually, one of the requirements is consultation with your doctor about the closeness of your bloodlines and the effect on possible future children. You should talk to your parish priest and he will give you specifics.

HI thanks for the reply… Im from Malaysia not live in USA… just wanna know what is the real law of canon code. i have already spoke to my priest and he strictly does not allow me to marry. but i told him that i wanna meet bishop and ask for dispensation. he said he dont mind if i wanna meet my bishop. but he dont want to allow this marriage…thats what im confusing…
