The Rites of Christian Initiation by Max Johnson is a very detailed text on the development of Baptismal and Confirmation rites. I had Max as a professor and the issue of the development of Confirmation is very interesting. After taking that course I am convinced that we have totally distorted the purpose of Confirmation that the Orthodox and Eastern Rites have it right
