So Creation or Evolution?
Where do you stand?
Where does the church stand?

Water I’m not lying. I’m a Christian. I went to school in the 70’s. St. Clairs school Rosedale NY. Dad, St Johns University Jamaica NY.
Go to any catholic bookstore for the statue.
Better yet, post a question on this sight about St Joseph statues. You’ll get plenty of answers.
Statues are not harmful. Like I said time and time again, they are in Catholic houses to remind the Catholics that there are others who lived Christian life, and some have died for their faith.

Their example makes them worthy to follow. Most saints are Christlike. We are call to imitate Christ. The saints imitate the Savior, likewise, we all must follow.

I want to make this clear to you again, newbie. Catholics do not worship statues. Don’t judge the appearance of a Catholic praying in front of a statue.

There are some Protestants I heard that venerate and worship the Bible itself. Yet, I don’t judge them harshly. Don’t judge them because you don’t know what is in the hearts of men and women.

Water,
I wear a cross around my neck.
No body of Jesus is on the cross.

You are correct about burying the statue. I googled and found out a bit info about it, and here it is

“According to the U.S. Catholic Information Center in Washington, D.C., the tradition is traced back hundreds of years to Theresa of Avila, who prayed to St. Joseph when the convents needed more land and encouraged nuns to bury St. Joseph medals in the ground as a symbol of their devotion.”

So, it was St. Joseph who was a carpenter, and the nuns were praying for his intercession to help them, and they bury the medals as a symbol of their devotion. It is quite similar to you wearing a Cross around your neck.

Now, you can say how come they buried it on the ground, and do not put somewhere higher. The same question for you as well, why don’t you put the Cross you wearing on your head because the head is higher than your neck.

Well, thank you all for the informative answers. It seems you are all pretty dug in
Yeah, I’d say the same for you…you seem to accept anything that any anti-Catholic spouts but when a Catholic has a reasonable and rational (as well as Biblical answer-like mine) you offer no response, but simply sidestep it and bring on the a-C propaganda. Why don’t you actually check out what my friends and I have charitably shared with you.

You may have been a Catholic for 22 years, but I was decieved into being a non-Catholic for over 34 years.

and well versed in apologetics.
yet you are versed in rhetoric. Rhetoric that has been answered constantly for 500 years. The new winds of men’s doctrines that blow through the n-C churches today will not alter the faith of knowledgeable Catholics, but if you have an honest heart…it should cause you to double check your sources against what we have offered. If you do so you’ll discover that you’ve been fed a load of unbiblical junk and (if you’re like me) it’s going to make you really upset that your were so decieved…
I never meant to make anyone angry. I was just voicing my opinion.
Maybe not…but what if your opinion, which has been fed to you from Calvary Chapel’s teaching (which even many n-C churches now consider a cult, BTW) is dead wrong? Messages from Heaven is a pack of lies from the devil my friend. I’ve watched some of it before I wanted to puke because of the level of outright lies and misrepresentations that were being spread about our most holy faith.

You should already be able to see that you’ve been fed bad info by these people and their dvd. You make a lot of assumptions based on things that you say you’ve seen. However…do you have a cross in your car? Do you process through the streets throwing money at a cross as a demonstration of your devotion to God? Do you have any kind of shrine in your front yard? There are just so many messed up comments that you have made and you judge the hearts of others when you have no idea what they believe. How can you? You are not God…you might know your own heart if you are very honest. Mine, your Mom’s (God bless her faithful heart!) or any other soul’s you cannot know.
I come from a devout catholic family. My mother is a eucharistic minister she goes to church every day. In front of her house there is a shrine. There are three statues in the shrine. Mary holds the highest position while Jesus and Joseph are on a lower lever. I pointed out to my mom that Jesus should hold the top position in the shrine and Mary and Joseph should be looking up to Him.
You have such a sadly critical spirit… A work of art meant to show and encourage devotion to Christ and the example of the Holy Family, (An example that our society desperately needs!) and you give you Mom a case about it?
I realized that Mary is gaining more and more importance in catholicism.
This is total bunk, and you cannot provide the least evidence to support that assertion.
In Mom’s car, there is a statue of Mary, no cross or image of Jesus anywhere.
So? You have no idea what else your Moms has around. Bet she’s carrying her Rosary. Will you criticize her for the crucifix on that as well when it serves to remind us of the terrible sacrifice that Our Dear Lord made for our sins? Read this.
I also saw a scapular in the car. I remember carrying a scapular in my pocket for years when I was growing up. Printed on the scapular reads: whoever dies while wearing this scapular will not see eternal fire.
A picture of Mary on one side and a picture of the sacred heart on the other.
Sacred Heart of Jesus! Who do you think your Mom trusts to get her into heaven? I’ll bet you have never sat down over coffee and asked her to share her faith with you, have you? If you had the grace to ask her and listen to her testimony you’d fast discover that her faith is in Christ. Are you too indoctrinated by Calvary Chapel’s cult to even see the errors they have fed you and the propaganda about the Catholic faith to even now begin to question their information and agenda in providing it?

You need to think carefully about that.
If Mom gets into a car accident do you really think that scapular with the picture of Mary will keep her out of hell?
I think she’ll find grace to fly into the arms of Our Lord and that His most precious name will be the aspiration of her dying breath. Glory Be To God!
Pax tecum,

Manny,
You know there are thousands of Saints.
You also know church history.
So you must know that some of those crooked popes we were talking about yesterday used to cannonize certain people for political reasons.
So not every saint was necessarily a saintly person.
Can you imagine praying to a saint and you really don’t know what that person was in real life.
We know today that some so called holy catholic priests have done some pretty nasty things to little children.
Can you imagine someone a hundred years from now praying to one of these criminals?

Water,
I wear a cross around my neck.
No body of Jesus is on the cross.
I don’t see there is anything wrong with having a real body of Jesus on the cross. Actually, the reason we have the body on the Cross, and we do have that in the church is to remind us of our sins and how much Jesus loved us. Look at Him on the Cross, it reminds us a lot about His Love.

Really? Then that is unbiblical.

Look Here.
Pax tecum,

P.S. Am I the only one noticing that this person is not answering the substantive refutations of his rhetoric and just continuing to spout more? C’mon man! I’ve refuted the stuff you’ve posted with facts, so what will you do? Sit there and keep posting this stuff or have the courage of your convictions to go check out all the facts that we’ve handed you? You have not responded to one refutation so far.

If you want truth, then study to show thyself approved unto God and stop talking and begin actually listening and learning.

If you’re here to evangelize Catholics away from our most holy faith, then you better back up and read the consolidated stickies at the top of the apologetics forums and get a handle on the Forum Rules and Banned Topics.

Can you imagine someone a hundred years from now praying to one of these criminals?
I thought you said you were a Christian! Didn’t you ever sin in your life? Do not judge others for you are a sinful man yourself.

Manny’
That scripture sight has a picture of Jesus and
mary side by side, like they are equal. Do you think Mary is equal with our Savior Jesus?
Come on man!
Of all the ridiculous things! Around my house I probably have four or five pictures of my baby nieces and nephews for every one of their parents or my own. And the largest ones would be of the children as well.

Does that mean that I value or respect, or even love, the children more than their parents or mine? What an offensive and preposterous idea! It simply means that my family members are somewhat shy and we all prefer to have and take lots of pics of the kids than of ourselves.

To My Dear Church Militant
YOU NEED TO CHILL!
Maybe too many coffees today?
As for Mom, I don’t think she is saved. I talked to her at length.
I encourage her to get into the Word. That’s where she will grow to know the truth. The half paragraph read at mass is NOT ENOUGH. If you study the Bible you will come to the truth also. Catholic church keeps its parishioners on milk. They say you can’t read the scriptures on your own and understand them.
I encourage you to mature to eat meat. The meat of the word of God.

Right on Water!
Look at the link in post 100! You might as well because it doesn’t look like Newbie is interested in doing anything but making statements against the Catholic Church.

Really? Show me some evidence that a Saint was canonized for political reasons. There is none.

The Church has strict guidelines to determine who is a Saint. For instance, miracles must take place due to that Saint’s intercession, and there must be an investigation to prove that it really was a miracle, not just due to medical treatment or scientific reasons.

The total # of Pope since Peter is 265, and the 265 Pope is Pope Benedict XVI.

There have been 78 canonized popes in the history of the Church, and 9 others who are currently blessed. This gives a total of 87 canonized or blessed , or a percentage of about 32 percent. The most recent members of this group are: The Popes and Sanctity

32% of the Popes Saints!.. this gives the Office of the Pope the highest percentage of Sanctity of any profession.
Code:
The actual Pope, John Paul II is a holy man, and a wise one... no one, Pope or not Pope, has ever made more extensive world-wide evangelization... serious and joyful, solid in the doctrine, open to any dialogue... every member of most religions love him, including Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists... I love the Pope John Paul!.

There have been about ten corrupt popes, out of a total of 264. The most infamous pope in history was probably pope Alexander VI (1492-1503) who had seven illegitimate children as a cardinal, which he openly acknowledged. As the newly-elected 61 year-old pontiff, he had an affair with the 19-year -old Giulia Farnese, who was herself a married woman.

Name them - which saints, which Popes canonised them and what use precisely did their canonisations serve politically for those Popes? I’m not saying it’s not possible, but I’ll need to see solid evidence before I believe it.

And don’t forget that Jesus himself was in fact a dangerous person, politically subversive and bordering on if not actully criminal (according to the harsh laws of the time at any rate).

What Rhetoric would you like me to answer?
Can’t we have a civil conversation without all the attacks?
Please ask one question at a time and I will answer each of them.

They say you can’t read the scriptures on your own and understand them.

I am not sure if you really eat the meat of the Word. You should come to the Catholic Mass and eat the Body and drink His Blood.

Was it the Meat that you really eat, but how come I see you having lack of love as for you saying above things that you have no support for. All I see is that you have some hatred toward your fellow Christians.
