He wouldn’t, so you need to ask the priest what the real reason was except that he will not tell you as it is none of your business nor the business of the secretary who should be removed from what is a position of trust due to her inability to keep private other peoples private affairs.
👍 A bad Parish Secretary can cause more problems than anyone else I can think of.

👍 Seems the “Catholic Ghetto” attitude of certain lay parish staff is still around.
Still hooked on “Spirit of Vatican II”. When will they ever let it go?

Joe, I agree with you.
If parish secretary ignores the rule of confidentiality required in her job, she should be fired.

I hope the parish secretary has been reported for gossiping about confidential info .I think I would have her fired .I would assume she is under oath as much as the clergy to keep private info private. It upsets me when someone has a very personal problem and assumes by talking to the clergy for advice they expect privacy .i put off discussing a very private matter with my parish priest when I arrived at his office and discovered his secretary was the worst gossip in the city .I absolutely shuddered when I thought of the info she had access toand how much damage she could and had done to people.

Yes, gossipy secretaries came into being in the late 1960s, right after the end of Vatican II. Whatever you say.

Thanks for everyone’s replies. While I admit I don’t know the details of the story, the person who relayed it had firsthand knowledge of the situation in her position as the parish secretary. The out of wedlock child was cited as the reason for the refusal in her version of events. If other factors were involved they were not communicated with the rest of the story. If the story as told is actually true, I do think it’s very unfortunate for everyone involved.

I think the pastor should be informed that the secretary is talking out of school. That’s very serious. Since she’s shown herself untrustworthy, you really can’t believe what she says, either.

I think if someone were to start a thread about parish secretaries, it could become a very long thread. 😛
More than likely. But wouldn’t it also be considered “gossip”? The same thing everyone is complaining aobut…😃

But isn’t your statement that “his secretary was the worst gossip in the city.” gossip?

After all, she isn’t here to defend herself.
