So I can assume that every person who had hands laid on them from the time of the disciples up to the present have the power to heal, raise the dead, etc, or it just the top one (the pope), or has the power once held by the disciples run low or completely out. Tradition is a powerful tool, it sure keeps Roman catholics under control. The word of God will be your judge ,not tradition. Ralph
That’s okay. Many of us are used to the hatred of Catholics and Catholicism that has also been passed on since Luther got it wrong and split the true Church.

This is probably exactly why Jesus left us a Church instead of a Bible, why don’t you try to realize this truth? The Bible was written by the Church for the Church.
a question my friend, with all do respect, are stating that the Church is more important than the Bible?

please clarify, i want to stand in clear observation as to what i’ve just read on your post here.

is this what the church teaches?

please clarify, the church wrote the Bible?

peace.

**There arouse a little misunderstanding. Member “allhers” is right:

Jesus founded His one and only Church on St. Peter as we read in Mt 16,18.
The Bible however was written after Pentecost under the supervision of the Holy Spirit – and the Church collected most scriptures of the Old Testament too, to assimilate it in “THE HOLY BIBLE”.

All who wrote the Bible, as far as the THE NEW TESTAMENT is concerned, where Members of the Church Jesus founded.

The Holy Bible – old as New Testament in one - is given to the Church Jesus founded, for authorised teaching.

(But actually – this again is quite off topic. Isn’t it?)

God judges and sentences people to hell. The only way a person can get to hell, is if God judges them worthy of hell.
we are all worthy of hell, (Romans 6:23) For the wages of sin is death(Romans 3:23) all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God(Romans 3:10)None is righteous, no, not one

Therefor, it is Gods will that someone goes to hell. If it is Gods will, then the people in hell are carrying out Gods will.

it is not God’s will that ‘someone goes to hell’, on the contrary God desires that all be saved:

1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him

God provided a way for us to escape eternal damnation in Jesus Christ now the issue of wills: man’s will is what keeps him from God’s grace; pride.

All praise and glory to God, for by his will, souls spend eternity in hell. How could that not be joyous? The souls in hell, they are carrying out Gods will and would be filled with bliss knowing that they are carrying out his divine plan.

God does not rejoice in sending people to hell, He is a compassionate, generous, merciful and loving God who wants to save you.

i don’t know you but i would think that you are not a heartless or ruthless person. let us say you are lifeguard at a neighborhood pool and a child is drowning and you toss out a life preserver but he does not reach out for it. you don’t want this child to drown but the child, though he is drowning insist that he is o.k. he doesn’t want the people in his life to know that he can’t swim on his own, his pride holds him back from reaching out to the life preserver, you tossed out to him.

you call out to him to grab the life preserver but to no avail. you continue to try and help this child cause you care for him and don’t want to see him drown. you now step of the lifeguard stand and you dive in to save him but he fights with you and eventually drowns.

now would you rejoice in this child’s death or would you be deeply sorrowed?

we my friend are all drowning in our sins and God provided a way to save us cause there was nothing that we could do. (Romans 4:4)Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. one could try like the child to save himself thinking he does not need a savior and receive his ‘due’ which is death.

John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

God stepped of His throne diving into this pool we live in to save us but only if we would receive this gracious gift.

Phillippians 2:6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

now my friend by your name ‘i am not afraid’, maybe your not but inside of you deep within your soul there is a stir and let me remind you God is a loving God who will forgive any sin. ask Him and He is faithful to forgive. reach out to Jesus who awaits you with outstretched arms.

may God bless you with His grace.

Peter of course is dead. I feed people with the word of God, God’s sheep, that is those who belong to His fold, the body of Christ. I also feed people who do not belong to the body of Christ (who are outside the fold) to win them to Christ (plant the seed) as God told us to do. Some have responded positively and have come to know Christ in a personal way, repenting of their sin and accepting the free gift of salvation that Christ offers them. The seed I plant of course is the word of God. Ralph
I see a great danger in self-interpretation of the Word.

This is why we have not only the Bible, but tradition, and the Magisterium.

You will be judged by the bible in the last days, not by tradition and the “Magisterium” whoever they are. Ralph

Confession isn’t necessary for me.

When I rejected my Christian faith and denied the existence of God.

My faith melted away and so did my guilt, anxiety and shame.
I’d bet good money that it’s all hiding somewhere, ready to emerge big time.

And Ralph, I struggle with my own attempts to obey. But I do obey, as best as I am able, the Church, which includes the Bible, Tradition, and the Magisterium.

The Bible does no judging. God will do that. I am redeemed by Christ’s sacrifice, but I won’t know if I’m saved till I get there.

What of the Apostolic power to heal lepers and raise the dead?

Funny how the Apostles only passed down their invisible powers, but not the powers that people can see with their own eyes.
Just a reminder. The moderator has asked that we keep to the topic of the thread which is Penance. Please start another thread and I will be more than happy to reply.

I have yet to see a book judge anyone. The Bible is paper and ink Ralphy.

The bible says that God will judge us in the last day by “His” word. You must be Roman catholic. Ralph

But, as we see, irreligious are deeply afraid, for they can’t prove theyr statements of inxestance of God and so they hve to bear the worry “what if it’ll be true after all
Things are actually pretty good and I want for little. I am, statistically speaking, one of the luckiest people living.

I want for very little.

It was a slow process. I had to overcome a fair amount of inner fear in challenging myself to question whether or not a God exists, let alone my Christian God.

I worked up the courage, studied my faith and the more I studied, the more my faith dwindled.

In essence, it was the full realization that we are natural animals, living in a natural world, within a natural universe, completely absent of any kind of a supernatural Deity.

I don’t have any faith, as faith is necessary for belief in the absence of evidence. Those days are well behind me.
True courage is shown in obedience, in carrying your own Cross, and humility.

The bible is not just a "book’, it is the word of God. Ralph
Wrong. The Word is not a book, the Word is a person: Jesus. The Word “became flesh and dwelt among us.”

The Word of God is neither a concept nor an opinion nor printed letters on the page, it is Jesus the Christ.

Your God is just as real to you as Vishnu is to a Hindu. All of your Gods are equally imaginary and fantastical to me. Your God is equally as fraudulent and non-existent to a Hindu, as you believe that her God is non-existent.

Fear not, your not alone if you can’t comprehend that. Many of the religious are incapable of grasping this concept.

A blood sacrifice does not erase injustice in any democratic state that I know of.

Nothing is impossible with God, the creator of the universe. A blood sacrifice is precisely what you should expect from primitive man living in the dessert 2000 years ago.

What exactly would the good Lord do if he had waited 2000 years to have brought the Messiah to the world and had this Messiah born to a virgin in Canada?

There could be no blood sacrifice in Canada, rather endless appeals, free legal aid, minimum sentencing, possibly even a community sentence!

I can see Jesus begging the courts to condemn him to death, so that God can forgive everyone!

’ But your Honour, my Dad can’t forgive anyone if you give me a community sentence order and absolute discharge of my charges, you have to put me to death!’

I suppose your right, it’s a good thing that Jesus came 2000 years ago, as Gods genius plan requiring a blood sacrifice, would be hard pressed to carry out in any enlightened and civilized nation today.
There you go again - making assumptions.
Has it ever occurred to you that had not Jesus appeased God’s wrath that we might not still be here 2000 years distant? 😉

It’s not God’s Word when you speak it through your lips and personal interpretation Ralph - always remember that.

Hi Ralphy,
I used to be where you are believing in a gospel of “cheap grace” or worse yet free grace costs you nothing. As we enter into Holy Week perhaps you should re-read the passion or even watch the movie to see what it cost Jesus. Jesus also tells us to take up our cross and follow him. The reference to “cheap grace” comes from one of your own protestant theologians, Dietrich Bonhoffer, who died at Auschwitz! As a Catholic I believe in “costly grace” now. Christ gave his all for us and as part of our covenant with him we should be ready like Bonhoffer to give our all for him even at the cost of our lives.

By the way scripture does teach “tradition” in II Thess. 2:15 as well as confession note:James:5;13-16 which mentions “elders” in King James and who are those elders and how did they get their authority?
Also where do YOU think that Bible of your came from? Do you think that God himself dropped it out of the sky? How did folks figure out what books belonged there? A church council made up of Bishops met and through the Holy Spirit hashed it out otherwise you’d be quoting the Gospel of Mary Magdalene at us poorly and out of context! the Bible you’re flaunting at us as the Word of truth was given to you by the Church. We collected the books. We translated them for you. Our monks copied them for you by HAND spending their whole life doing so. Irish monks also travelled the world in the middle ages teaching people to read and write so that you could misinterpret God’s Word to suit your easy out grace.
i’m also fairly certain that since you accepted Jesus as “savior” you have sinned. Do you confess that sin or just go on your merry way thinking you’re forgiven. That is presumption on God’s mercy and will count against you on judgement day! You do realise as a Christian regardless of denomenation your judgement will be harsher than somebody who’d never heard of Jesus? And that goes double for Iamnotafraid, who chooses a moniker from our late Pope out of scripture andkeeps coming here. Once a catholic always a catholic!
remember ralphy to thank the next catholic you meet for the gift of your Bible which tells you of Jesus’ forgiveness:signofcross::highprayer::byzsoc:

True courage is shown in obedience,
Obedience - Jesus was an individual who went against the grain, did not conform and rebelled against the authorities of the day.

Amazing that his Church has turned into one of strict adhearance to rules and regulations.
