When a Jew marries another Jew they transcend and become a new creation. Each partner connects to the other by her own unique spiritual-root. The Jewish act of marriage is traditionally confirmed by two kosher witnesses (A Rabbi is not required to be present).

When a Jew marries a non-Jew then his spiritual-root remains dormant and his soul will continue to cry out for reconciliation. Intermarriage may be civilly binding but it is devoid of the essential spiritual-root connection. Matrimony can only be a business transaction at best.

There are many other ways to affirm one’s love for another.
