As a non-Baptized person he may not see anything wrong with fornication, however because you are a Baptized Christian, you are held to a higher standard, and should see this differently. Scripture says fornicators will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
so Bro, that means I’m doomed? No chance for me?

I guess I’ll answer that question, yes Nancy you are going to heaven and the gates of hell shall not prevail. there i dont need anyone to tell me Jesus does not love and care about me.

What is a despensation and if it no legal then we are living in sin ha! Now does that go for everyone else that is not catholic married outside the catholic church? Like other demominations? Nancy
A dispensation is like a waiver - the bishop agrees to lift the canon law restriction against marrying an unbaptized person because of the particular circumstances of your relationship.

Only Catholics need to obtain a dispensation to marry an unbaptized person. Protestants are not bound by Catholic canon law, except when that law is of divine origin. And despite 2 Corinthians 6:14, Catholics apparently consider this to be an ecclesiastical restriction.

Protestants aren’t under the authority of the Catholic Church. If they later become Catholic, then they become bound by the laws of the Church, including II Corinthians 6:14.

The Church is protected from the gates of Hell; not individuals. Individuals who don’t follow the precepts of the Church can certainly end up in Hell.

He loves and cares about you so much that He instituted the Sacraments by dying on the Cross for you, and gave you a Church out of the blood and water that poured forth from His sacred heart, that will keep you on the path to Heaven to go and be with Him, if you follow it. 🙂

. . . Catholics who marry outside the Catholic Church are still in an invalid marriage, until they come back to the Catholic Church and repeat their vows before a priest.
Just to point out that there are two ways to have one’s marriage convalidated, and “renewal of consent” before a Catholic priest is one. The other is “radical sanation” and is the route I took upon my return to the Church. Very good article here: catholic.com/thisrock/1995/9504qq.asp

Peace all.

HI, I was Catholic he wasn’t,we were married in a Gospel church but my husband was never baptized in his life we just found out. He is going to RCIA classes right now. Nancy
Once someone is a Catechumen they have certain rights in the Church even though they are not yet baptized. These include the right to be married in the Church and the right to a Christian (Catholic) burial. If he has gone through the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens then he has these rights now.

“How the Church Convalidates Civil Marriages” is a nice article about various scenarios about Catholics with the need to have a civil marriage convalidated.

Contact the Tribunal office (the link is below for the Portland Diocese), ask for an appointment (in phone or in person if you are within driving distance). Sit down and explain your marriage situation.
