I have heard the expression, “God hates the sin, but loves the sinner.” Though it is not a biblical statement per se it is widely accepted…
What then, do we do with the following passages?
Psalm 5:5
“The foolish shall not stand in thy sight:
thou hatest all workers of iniquity.”
Psalm 11:5
The LORD trieth the righteous: but
the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
Proverbs 6:16-19
These six things doth
the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look,
a lying tongue, and
hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and
he that soweth discord among brethren.
Proverbs 12:22
Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Proverbs 16:5
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Proverbs 17:15
He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
These verses all express God’s hatred for sin, but in these cases also for the sinner.
This question has been bothering me for quite a while and I trust that you might be able to give me an answer…
