Please give scriptures from the NT to back what you are saying. The Bible is not hard to understand. It is so easy my friend to use a scripture or passage to go with your thinking. I am not saying I am perfect but cmon and really try to understand the whole context of God’s Word.
Then explain why Matthew 6:13 was added on by the Protestants?? The earliest Protestant work that I see that Matthew 6:13 has been added to was the Tyndale NT of 1525.

Acts 20:28 mentions Bishops

Take heed to yourselves and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the Church of God which he hath purchased with his own blood.

and so does Philippians 1:1

Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ: to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons.

It does occur in Philippians 1:1 of NKJV

Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

Acts 20:28 omits bishops
Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

Nowhere in James is it found in the Douay-Rheims, NAB, or RSV-CE does the word bishop appear

No, you are very wrong about scripture being easy and your invalid neo-Christian interpretation of scripture just proves it in spades. Without proper authorized apostolic teaching we get the many errors of Protestantism and other false teachings. In fact, if you read all of scripture you would see that scripture itself tells us that it is hard to understand. Again this just proves why we need apostolic teaching to first get one into the proper context.

2 Peter 3:15-16
"…beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in
* which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.***

What is easy “my friend” is just showing Christian courtesy of being corrected and responding to the 15 scripture verses in the need to confess sins that I presented earlier. These all prove to even the skeptic the necessity of orally confessing one’s sins. Also please respond to the the posting I made of the 10 Early Church Father’s teachings that prove the early Christians ALL believed in confessing sins to a priest. And after that explain why you disobey apostolic teaching and do not confess your sins?

Go back and respond to these posts:

Many NT scripture verses proving we must confess our sins

Many Early Church Father’s Teachings on The Early Church’s Practice of Confessing Sins.

Can you point to any early Christian history or document that tells us that early Christians did not confess their sins and went against the apostolic teaching? Note that I do not consider the mid 1500’s Protestant Revolution’s new practice of not confessing sins as “early church” since this is a reformed neo-Christianity that does not resemble what the early church did and is not the same “Christianity”.

I gave an example or comparison as to what is meant by common grace versus saving grace; their is not explicit use of the term in the Bible; but I’m sure if you apply some logic you will come up with the understanding. The post should be near this one.**
I take the time to compose 4 or 5 paragraphs of text and the best you can say is “I am sure you can figure out what I mean if you look at scripture???”

Why don’t you at least answer my questions? Do you believe in OSAS? Do you agree that one received sanctifying grace (what you call saving grace) at baptism and it can be lost through grave sin?

James

**No one can lose a salvation they never had to begin with and "that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. " (Php. 1:6)
…

1John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not {really} of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but {they went out,} so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. **
The following verse also sounds like those who were never really part of Christ and “unsaved” for failing to believe in the real presence of Christ in The Eucharist (body and blood of Christ under the appearances of bread and wine). How ironic they are marked by chapter and verse with the sign of the beast 6:66. 😃
John 6:54-58
"He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 “For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. 57 “As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. 58 “This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.”

John 6:64
“But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.

John 6:66
As a result of this [ed: teaching on the need to eat His body and blood] many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.*

Those false disciples in John **6:66 **lost their salvation since they lost their belief in Jesus’ teachings and refused to eat and drink the Body and Blood of Christ. (like so many Protestants).

**Come on James, am I Catholic? No one can loose what the Father has given to Christ. Therefore once you are saved (received saving grace); then you are His. The sanctification process begins and this is where we learn, by God’s will, to live in holiness, never reaching the goal until our future glorification.

Also, no works, act or ritual such as water baptism will ever infuse grace. You will receive blessing for your obedience, but the saving grace has already been imputed 100%.

I have a question for you that has been on my mind the past couple of days. Do you believe that Catholics will be at the throne of judgment and what is the purpose for this judgment from a Catholic perspective?**

You have a non-apostolic belief if you think baptism is merely symbolic and not an actual sacrament that imparts a real spiritual mark of Christ, forgives sins (personal and original) and infuses God’s Sanctifying Grace into one’s soul so that is can start the sanctification process. At least we seem to agree that there is a sanctification process but your idea “imputed” grace is not consistent with infused grace and a sanctification process and you seem to have a personal variation-on-a-theme theology that runs counter to the Protestant new idea that grace covers over a sinful corpus without actually effecting a true interior change. There are so many novel variations of Protestant belief that the combinatorial mix of beliefs leaves one with a smorgasbord of beliefs and a theological framework which is about as defined and rigid as jello.

**Will Catholics be at the throne of judgment and what is the purpose for this judgment from a Catholic perspective? **

I am not sure what you mean by this terminology but I will guess that you mean the second judgement. The first judgement is personal (immediately at death) and what we call the particular judgment. At the particular or first judgment one goes either to hell, or to heaven (or to purgatory for final purgation of the concupescence of forgiven sin not properly repented then on to heaven). At the end of the age where Christ comes in Glory all in heaven and earth and hell are gathered together for a final second general judgement so that Christ can proclaim the final word and judgement on it all. Here each soul both saved and damned will collectively be made to see the full extent of its good or evil works over all its earthly life and how it impacted every other person and Creation. Every sin forgiven and unforgiven will be revealed to show what its impacts were. Those who were judged worthy of salvation in their first judgements will not be shamed by their forgiven sins as it will be show that a greater good came out of it through grace. Here is where God reveals how a total greater good came out of grace in the presence of evil and reveals His wisdom in not annihilating humanity for its original transgressions and instead permitting man to fall to reveal God’s greater goodness through His Son’s redemptive mission. Each person will be given a new perfected body - even the damned (so that they may be punished in the flesh as well as the spirit). Catholics will of course be present and true Catholics are all “saved” and some who called themselves Catholics but did not conform to teachings will be damned.

The other reason for the 2nd judgement is to intensify the glory for those saved and to intensify the punishment for those damned.

So yes - Catholics will be present at the final judgement and so will Protestants, Jews, Muslims and all humans who ever walked the earth. But at the proclamation of the final word those judged worthy of eternal life are repatriated with God in heaven for eternal beatitude both in glorified body and soul and those others to eternal damnation.

Then comes the New Cretation and the rewards too wonderous to imagine for those who are saved in Christ.

James

That is the fallacy; we all are under “common grace”; but “saving” grace is a single event where one is justified before God unto salvation; Christ’s righteousness is imputed to us; when God sees His elect He sees the righteousness of Jesus.

Common grace is where the rain and the sun are given to the righteous farmer and the unrighteous farmer.

Sacraments do not continue to infuse, impart nor impute and further race; otherwise this grace is no longer grace because now you have to perform some act to build up…no that is unbiblical.
This is not what the apostles taught nor what the Church ever believed. This is a new idea that the reforms came up with 1500 years after Christ’s resurrection.

Catholic teaching is that one is justified in Christ through baptism. That is a life time event. This puts one under the New Covenant of Love and Mercy that Christ taught so we are no longer subject to the letter of the law - but we still must follow all the commandments. The best thing in all this is we can be assured of forgiveness through confession when we fail.

Sanctification comes as a process that is initiated at baptism but which works in us over our lives to progressively advance and grow us in faith, knowledge and spiritual capacity to become more Christ-like. The end objective is theosis - to become Christ-Like - saintly and ‘pure and perfect as your heavenly father is perfect and holy’.

The sacraments are channels of grace that continue to nourish us - one must EAT and DRINK of the body and blood of Christ so we may have life in us. This is partaking of the salvific fruit from the Tree of Life - Christ hanging on the tree (the cross). Christ is literally the narrow gate to heaven - the cross is also the door lentil where the pascal lamb’s blood is sprinkled through which one gains reentry to the promised land - heaven. No one comes to the Father except through Christ (on the cross).

The sacraments are seen all in the bible - both OT and NT (see the life giving water flowing from the rock in the dessert, the manna that comes down from heaven which prefigures Eucharist, the healing balms, the healing fruit in Revelation etc.).

What you don’t seem to understand about grace is that we can actually grow our souls and expand our spiritual capacity. This is why it is said that the angels are jealous and if given the choice would become human just to have the opportunity to increase their spiritual capacity to higher then they are! But as higher as angels are they are all they will ever be since they are created in situ. But we humans can actually become higher than some of the angels if we were to fully avail ourselves of all of God’s grace that is made available through the Catholic Sacraments and the various spiritual devotionals (e.g. Sacred Heart of Jesus etc.). Christians should be addicted to grace and be looking to get more and more (to those than have more will be given). There is an entire hiearchy in heaven and if the least in heaven were to suddenly appear to any of us we would be astonished at their beauty and grace and think ourselves unworthy to look upon them.

“Give us this day or daily bread” tells us that we are to partake of God’s spiritual food and grow in Christ’s grace. Children grow and become adults.

Of those Protestants that do make it to heaven few will attain to anything close to the spiritual estate as Catholics since they have never availed themselves of the sacraments. These, in whatever number they may be, will be among the least of heaven. Martyrs are among the highest.

J**ust so you know; 666 is the sign of man; the sign of the beast as being 666 is a secular myth.

If you would have went to John 6:63; Jesus tells everyone the context of the eat the flesh and drink the blood part; Peter, verses 68-69 understood the meaning; that why He said You have words of eternal life. 69 "We have believed; believed what? That you are literal food and we are to eat you? The WORDS of eternal life; not body of eternal life. No way you can see that simple truth; just as the people that took it literally because they did not believe walked away; Jesus even questioned them by stating "“Does this cause you to stumble?” This was his intention; get rid of the freeloaders and not cater to their unbelief. This is your crowd friend. I pray for the day God will open your eyes and heart; so you may see that simple truth.

I’ll tell you when I first read that passage; I was like what??!! Eat flesh and drink blood!! gross; that can’t be right (that was immediate); then as I continued to read the rest; it became transparent and I was relieved.**

Seeking12 - I see why you use the moniker “Seeking” because you are running from the truth that you are seeking.

BTW I just had to toss in the 666 thing to test you to determine if you were one of those pre-tribber’s who in their fear of the “tribulation” and anti-christ is supplementing the Word of God with the many pop-fiction pre-trib rapture books and is looking for ways exempt themselves from suffering for Christ through a work of new secret knowledge that sounds like sensationalism or gnostic in origin. It’s good to see you don’t suffer from the rather typical Protestant condition of hexakósioi-hexékonta-hexa-phobia . 😃

At any rate more recent insights gleaned from older manuscripts (e.g. the Oxyrhynchus Papyri) suggest a scrivener error or contemporary embellishment (imperfection and incompetence seems to be a very ancient problem) and the real number was originally 616. No wonder Jesus has issues with the scribes. 😉 Emperor “Nero”, the terrible first century persecutor of Christians could be written NRWN QSR (nun-resh-waw-nun qof-samek-resh in Hebrew spelling. The final letter “nun” is optional in the Hebrew spelling of Nero. Thus, NRW QSR would in the gematria rendering be 50+200+6+100+60+200 = 616. If 616 was the original reading, it is easy to see how the text of Rev 13:8 would have been changed to “666,” due to its more highly symbolic value (since “6” represents lack or incompleteness, in contrast to the number “7” representing completion, the triple 666 represents evil more clearly than 616.). See more here: Beast 616.

But I really have to almost cry at your persecution of scripture here to imagine that Jesus was upset with “free loaders” eating too much of the free fishes and loaves produced by the miracles and the tough-ready-to-die-for-their-faith Jews would run away and cower like sissies from a metaphor. Please Searching12 - get some credible sense of reality!

There is more pre-figuring and proof of real presence (of Christ Body and Blood) in scripture than most any other aspect of scripture. And then to also just blindly ignore centuries of historical evidence from the patristics that the entire Christian Church regularly partook of Eucharist is just to admit that one is constructing their own reality and desperately jumping through scripture hoops to evade the clear truth. Read here if you want all the scriptural evidence as well as the patristics: scripturecatholic.com/the_eucharist.html

Turn around and look truth straight in the eye rather than running from it or you will be “seeking” all your life. Your looking in the wrong direction and headed down hill fast. If you don’t stop running from the truth you will never find it. Hope to see you on the other side some day bro…

James

If God called all men, then all men would be saved. right?
No. Not all choose to answer the call. Some reject God’s purpose for themselves.
For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined {to become} conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
This passage is written in the past tense because it is applied to those who salvation has already been completed.
The ALL is the problem here, what is the All? He has called all men from all nations, tribes and tongues; the Jews and the gentiles; there will be the called of all nations, tribes and tongues in His presence.
Yes. And the Apostles taught that this call was not restricted to any way. It goes to all men everywhere.
James, As simple as I can put it, “good works” are the result and the evidence of a person being saved, not the means by which they are saved or hold onto that salvation. if you are truly saved, you will never lose it. But you Church teaches otherwise; which is another gospel.
It is true that you are teaching another gospel than the one taught by the Apostles. The Apostles taught that once a person is saved, they are saved for eternity. This is because they also taught that we are not “saved” in this life. As long as we are on the earth, we can still be cut off by unbelief. Apostasy is real.
**
That is correct; that verse is basically stating that names in the book are so sure; they will never be blotted out. If your name is in the Book of Life, which the elects names were put there before all creation; then it cannot be taken out. Ya better hope it is in there. There are no additions as well.**
Why do you suppose Jesus is speaking as if this is possible, when it is not? Do you think He is just being dramatic for effect?

No one can lose a salvation they never had to begin with
I agree
Galatians 5:4 “You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.”

These people that have fallen from grace were exposed to the truth and have fallen away from that truth by trying to work their salvation, this is common grace; being exposed to the truth; not saving grace.
That is what you have been taught to believe, but scripture does not support such an interpretation. one cannot be “severed” from something to which they were not joined. No one can be joined to Christ except by grace, through faith. Therefore, in order to be severed, they had to first be joined (Christian).

In order to “fall from grace” one must first be upheld by grace. No one is held up by grace outside of saving faith in Christ.

Being “exposed” to the truth is not sufficient to attach one, or join one, or lift one up in grace. these require that one make a profession of faith, and it this case, be baptized.
Galatians 5:5 “For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.”

These two verses show the contrast between being saved by faith versus the works.
Actually, it showes that the completion of our salvation is not completed in this life, but the next.
2Peter 2:20 shows the same thing; they received what kind of knowledge? The knowledge of Jesus; but turned back from that knowledge and placed themselves right back under the law, which made their situation worse than before. These people were never saved.
That is what you have been taught to believe. But, in fact, no one can have experiential knowledge of the kind Peter describes who is not a Christian. their state HAS to change. Being exposed to knowledge does not change a person. Only being born again does. In order for them to be “worse”, they had to be saved. Otherwise, their situation is not changed. The unbeliever is already condemned, because he does not believe, so it doesn’t get any “worse” when after hearing, he still does not believe. 🤷
1John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not {really} of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but {they went out,} so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.
Those who are in Christ are in unity with the authority that was appointed by Christ through the Apostles. 👍

Those who willfully depart from that authority no longer have belonging.

**
I gave an example or comparison as to what is meant by common grace versus saving grace; their is not explicit use of the term in the Bible; but I’m sure if you apply some logic you will come up with the understanding. **
I believe you are right. This is not a concept that is found in scripture. I think you are also correct that adding any creative amount of human logic can result in all kinds of “understandings” of what is there. One of these is Sola Scriptura, a doctrine that the Bible should be the ultimate authority, yet such doctrine cannot be found in Scripture.

“saving” grace is a single event where one is justified before God unto salvation; Christ’s righteousness is imputed to us;

Sacraments do not continue to infuse, impart nor impute ; otherwise this grace is no longer grace .
So, you’re saying ‘saving grace’ = initial justification ?

So, for you initial justification = final OSAS salvation ?

And, the sacraments are only symbolic ?

Imputed grace is irrevocable //// impervious to one’s freewill decision to become an apostate ?

Works are the result of saving faith, not the means of saving faith. This is a gross error and equates to “another” gospel based on works.
Why are you creating a strawman as if Catholics believe that works proceed faith???

Your “another” gospel comes from your error that once one believes and has faith in Jesus one does not need to do anything. You would make profession of faith into a work and make it an exception to your aversion to work just to avoid the strawman you attempt to impute to Catholics and not be confused for a Catholic. That is a fear based religion that is afraid to proclaim its faith both in words and in deeds.

Can’t you see your own double standard and hypocrisy?

One must obey Christ and that is an active obedience. One must suffer for Christ. One must love for Christ. One must hold to faith in the face of persecution. One must confess one’s sins. One must forgive sins of others against us. One must show mercy. One must be charitable to God and neighbor with more than just lip service. In other words one must be Christ Like and Christ was no double-speaker as you would make him here. Being Christ Like means to speak like Christ and DO like Christ. Christ was no buddha sitting around contemplating his navel and speaking axioms and single liner salvation slogans like you are uttering in these forums. Christ carried His Cross and SO MUST YOU.

Start BEING Christ Like and start walking along the path to salvation - it leads through the narrow gate of Christ on the Cross and into the eternal beatitude of The Promised Land. Some other good hearted Christian might be inclined to help you carry your cross as you talk and are carried - but at some point you need to yoke yourself to Christ and start doing somthing for Him to serve Him. So far all I hear from you is lip service. That won’t cut it brother.

Start living your faith not talking it.

James

OSAS occurs at the moment someone believes in Jesus as both Lord and Savior, then the sanctification process lasts a lifetime, then you are glorified. Romans 8 for more detail.

II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of who God and is profitable for what doctrine, for reproof, for correcton for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be complete thoroughly equipped for every good Work. God is the authority by who we learn his word. No where in the NT is there a command that we confess our sins to a priest for forgiveness. Read I Tim 2:5 where does it say to confess your sins to a priest. Matt 27:51 we now have access to God through a new and living way, not through some priest. II Tim 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God a worker who does not need to be ashamed rightly divinding the word of truth. You have yet to prove your case. Thanks anyway.
God Bless, My friend;)
Well brother ppasa316 while Paul’s letter to Timothy was speaking about Old Testament Scripture (since no NT or bible will be in existence for another 350 years) and explaining that it was profitable he did not mean that even the OT scripture stands alone to interpret itself. In fact JUST BEFORE this verse Paul tells us that we should follow traditions. And the traditions at the time were Judaic Oral traditions to interpret scripture called the Mishnah. The other new traditions were the Catholic tradition of orally professing the gospel and in the absence of an apostle having a disciple of an apostle TEACH what was being said. No one read this stuff in the early church since nothing in the NT was written down right away.

By the way 2 Tim 3:15 since it is talking about the OT proves that one can come to faith in Jesus WITHOUT the New Testament. Isn’t the power of The Risen Lord wonderful?

Also note in 2 Tim. 3:16 - this verse says that Scripture is “profitable” for every good work, but it DOES NOT SAY it is exclusive. The word “profitable” (“ophelimos” in the Greek) means useful. This just underscores that Scripture is not mandatory or exclusive. So your proof text proves you wrong. So far your batting average is not boding well for a claim on infallability… 😉

Further, in 22 Tim. 3:16, the verse “all Scripture” uses the words “pasa graphe” which actually means every (not all) Scripture. This means every passage of Scripture is useful. Thus, the erroneous Protestant reading of “pasa graphe” would mean every single passage of Scripture is exclusive. . This would mean Christians could not only use “sola Matthew,” or “sola Mark,” but could rely on any one single verse from a Gospel as the exclusive authority of God’s word. This, of course, is not true and even most rational Protestants would agree. Also, “pasa graphe” cannot mean “all of Scripture” because there was no New Testament canon to which Paul could have been referring, unless Protestants argue that the New Testament is not being included by Paul. You can’t have it both ways - either the NT existed or it did not. Either “all of scripture” refers to the Christian bible or it does not. Thus its is clear that this is OT since the NT does NOT exist - there is no Christian bible yet. And Paul is NOT prophesizing to Timothy that there is going to be a NT written and a new Christian bible. 😉

Now look at 2 Tim. 3:17. Paul’s use of the word “complete” for every good work is “artios” which simply means the clergy is “suitable” or “fit.” Also, artios does not describe the Scriptures, it describes the clergyman. So, Protestants cannot use this verse to argue the Scriptures are complete.

James 1:4 - steadfastness also makes a man “perfect (teleioi) and complete (holoklepoi), lacking nothing.” This verse is important because "teleioi"and “holoklepoi” are much stronger words than “artios,” but Protestants do not argue that steadfastness is all one needs to be a Christian.

Titus 3:8 - good deeds are also “profitable” to men. For Protestants especially, profitable cannot mean “exclusive” here.

2 Tim 2:21- purity is also profitable for “any good work” (“pan ergon agathon”). This wording is the same as 2 Tim. 3:17, which shows that the Scriptures are not exclusive, and that other things (good deeds and purity) are also profitable to men.

Col. 4:12 - prayer also makes men “fully assured.” No where does Scripture say the Christian faith is based solely on a book.

Back to - 2 Tim. 3:16-17. Finally, if these verses really mean that Paul was teaching sola Scriptura to the early Church, then why in 1 Thess. 2:13 does Paul teach that he is giving Revelation from God orally? Either Paul is contradicting his own teaching on sola Scriptura, or Paul was not teaching sola Scriptura in 2 Tim. 3:16-17. This is a critical point which Protestants cannot reconcile with their sola Scriptura position.

Obviously Paul is NOT teaching sola scriptura but is TEACHING that the clergy must teach through ORAL TRADITION. Ergo - Sola Scruptura is a false doctrine no matter how much you want to believe it. Ergo - Protestantism is a religion built on sand and is a complete lie.

Isn’t it amazing how your proof text ironically does prove something - it proves outright that Protestantism is based on a lie - a myth - mere teaching error of man.

I think he has to do this so that he can maintain his false concept of what the Church believes and teaches. It requires the creation of an entire myth. This is an essential part.
Code:
just to avoid the strawman you attempt to impute to Catholics and not be confused for a Catholic. That is a fear based religion that is afraid to proclaim its faith both in words and in deeds.
This is a very accruate observation. 👍
Can’t you see your own double standard and hypocrisy?
If this were the case he would not be finding fault with your faith, or that of other members here. 🤷

666 was a code for Ceasar Nero.

That’s why i left the Catholic church to learn the truth but nice try anyway. I have given you enough scripture to get you started. Please try to learn to rightly divide the Word of God. It is dangerous to interpret the Word of God to fit your way of thinking. By the way. Check out John Ankerberg on you tube. It really has a good debate between Walter Martin and a Catholic priest. I will be praying that you eyes and heart would be opened to the truth.
God Bless My Friend.👍
