You would have to repent to receive absolution…To be remorseful isn’t enough…I think a priest would not give absolution without a person admitting their act to the authorities

But this is just my way of thinking I am not sure I am right
A priest (who is mortal) has no spiritual authority to give absolution to a person who has committed a premediative act of taking the life of one of Gods souls, (murder).

Why do people place such high regards on the priestly class.
They choose their profession and bless them for it, but they are mortal like you and me.

Except when in the Confessional the Priest is In Persona Christi. Holy Orders gives them something special in certain circumstances such as spiritual authority over all those who come to him in Confession.

What Brenda wrote is correct. If we subscribe to Lola’s line of thinking, the type of sin is irrelevant; either the Priest is authorized by the virtue of his ordination to act as the “agent of Christ on earth”, as it were, to forgive sin or not.

We Catholics believe that Priests have such authority by way of their ordination.

I did enjoy that House episode, and I do get a kick out of how their medications always seem to act instantaneously; antibiotics that take days in the real world to work, work within hours, injections that would take hours work in seconds, IV injections that don’t even have time to get through the IV tube into the patient work like magic. 😃

Not to derail, but I Tivo’d the last episode and since it was prempted by the baseball game, only the first half was recorded. If anyone can PM me and fill me in on what happened, I’d be grateful.🙂

He acts in the person of Christ…Practice your own religion and allow me to do the same…I am not interested in being told how to worship by a non believer

The simple answer is that the priest doesn’t do the forgiving…Christ does the forgiving through the priest.
