SPLIT: SSPX approved or not?

I don’t know the geography of Orlando, but there is a SSPX chapel in Sanford. (accordign to SSPX website) you could try them. The website for SSPX is sspx.org. Maybe there is a better area for you, plus you can read up on them. I enjoy their masses, no pomp and circumstance and no fluff, just a mass said with reverence. 🙂

I suppose it depends on who in the ecclesia is doing the negat.

I guess that I have been to too many Masses where priests with diocesan approved faculties handed fish shaped cheese flavored crackers out of ciboria at communion time.

Oh, how many have you seen exactly? Had the priests attempted to consecrate the Goldfish crackers?

In this case, it would be two popes and the Curia.

I’ve got no approval for that whatsoever. But I think that when a new poster comes on to the forum and someone suggests going to an SSPX mass, basic honesty requires disclosing that those priests do not have faculties and are not in full communion with Rome. Many people don’t know that, and in fact have no idea who the SSPX are or what their situation is. Imagine how you would feel if you were traveling on Sunday and asked someone in a new town directions to “a Catholic church,” and they sent you to some sedevacantist or Palmarian service without telling you.

Thank God I’ve never seen that happen at my diocese! And it seems like Mr. Thompson is a little behind on the latest about the SSPX. Everyone by now should be aware of what their standing is and if not they can surely do a quick search on the forums or on google and their question will be answered. Also, I am not aware that the “priestly faculties” of SSPX priests were ever “taken away”, some were illicitly ordained but this does not mean that they lacked the indelible mark of priesthood.

I agree with you that those who recommend a SSPX mass should do so with a disclaimer ( If they should do so at all!). But I would say that most of those who frequent the forums have at least some basic knowledge of the SSPX especially since just recently there has been an attempt from the Holy See to engage in conversations with them…Palmarian!! Lol it has been a while since I’ve heard about the holy, catholic, apostolic and Palmarian church! I wonder what those guys are up to.

Actually, I’ve seen plenty of people on this forum ask, “Who are these ‘SSPX’ people keep talking about? What are EF, OF TLM, all these letters?”

And I didn’t mean that they don’t have holy orders; priestly faculties are the authorization to act as a priest. When a priest is “defrocked,” his faculties are taken away, but obviously he can never be literally reduced to the lay state. Official faculties are also necessary to validly administer the sacrament of confession/reconciliation, except in danger of death.

I’m glad you’re aware of all these things already – plenty of people are not (not every Catholic in the world reads Father Z and Whispers in the Loggia), and most Catholics, once it’s explained to them, would find a big difference between going to the SSPX and, say, the FSSP. Ultimately they can make their own choices; I just wanted to make sure that it was explained. 🙂

Two. The two Sundays I visited my sister’s parish.
Both my sister and nieces told me that this was the regular practice every Sunday. They had a separate line and ciborium for the kids.
I haven’t got a clue whether the priest consecrated anything at those Masses but the Host I received (from the adult ciborium) was thick and had the distinct flavor of a corn tortilla.
I will take a good old fashioned Latin Mass any day and trust that the Lord will deal with the “faculties” issue.

If you really need one, you can start with JPII’s Apostolic Letter Ecclesia Dei and, by way of a more current example, Pope Benedict’s letter concerning the lifting of the excommunications: “In order to make this clear once again: until the doctrinal questions are clarified, the Society has no canonical status in the Church, and its ministers – even though they have been freed of the ecclesiastical penalty – do not legitimately exercise any ministry in the Church.”

And I’m sure the other poster never saw it happen at his diocese, either; just like the clown mass hysteria that is always brought up in the EF vs OF argument.

It’s very similar to UFO sightings; with the millions and millions of people in this country, why is it that one person in Tennessee has seen a UFO 22 times yet the other 299,999,999 people here have not? On this forum we are constantly harped on about clown masses, cookies or chips used as communion waffers and every other conceivable and inconceivable thing happening at a “Novus Ordo” mass, yet it’s the same accusers who have seen it and not the multitudes who attend week after week after week. Why?
