SPLIT: What to do if you throw up the host?

I am a new Catholic, baptized and recieved my first sacraments this last Easter. I took the Eucharist in the mouth. I didn’t know there was a special way to take it, I just felt like I didn’t want to touch it with my hands. I just opened my mouth and my priest put it right in. I think if you stick out your toungue, most likely it will fall to the floor, and we don’t want that.

I am wondering on the other hand, and asked this question before, what happeneds if someone gets sick and throw up after they take communion? They can’t just flush it down the toilet or put it in the trash right? This is off topic, but just wondering, does anyone know?

I read a priest said to put the remains in a fire. I don’t know if this was after 10/15 minutes though, after the Real Presence is no longer there.

So your saying the Real Presence is not there after its in your body? I never thought about that before. I am a new Catholic and still learning, we are finishing up our last RCIA class next Thursday and feel I have a long way to go and a lot more learning to do.

We can’t know for sure, but the general rule has been, once the substance is no longer recognizable as the substance, the Real Presence is no longer there. Hence why hosts that are unconsumable are supposed to be dissolved in holy water, and wine is supposed to be diluted the same before pouring down the sacrium.

Dissolve the contaminated host in water and pour down the sacrarium.
