Do you have any further information for me, book references or links? I’m not challenging or asking you to document your claim. I truly just want to study.
take a look at this transcript of a Scott Hahn talk: catholic-pages.com/bvm/hahn.asp

reading it, i see i may have spoken too hastily: although he mentions that the gebirah was davidic and not in the northern kingdom, he references other near eastern countries with this feature…

Of course, Hahn also wrote “Hail Holy Queen” – a great little book!

What would a 13 year old girl be like who just found out that she was chosen to be the mother of the most important person in her country’s / people’s entire history? Thrilled – disbelieving – excited – scared – in awe (after all, she just had a visit from an angel of God!)!!! Don’t forget, though – she’s also being told that she’s going to be pregnant before the official beginning of marriage. These days, there’s still a bit of negative vibe – but back then, that was just about fatal!

that’s what i meant when i posited the question. thank you so much for understanding - i want to portray a ‘real woman’ and not a romantasised version. i’m reading that from before her birth she had been chosen to be the ‘vessel’. do you know if she knew this as a child or did it come out of the blue from Gabriel. the general opinion is that she accepted immediately but i’m thinking she must have been scared as well as honor bound??

thank you RobbyS for your reply. as an actress it’s really important to ask questions and do research. its not that we want to make things up, we always search for the truth.

do you have netflix? if not get it just to see this movie: “Mary, mother of Jesus” (1999). it really opens up the mind. as a previous post stated- humble and full of virtue. i really had a whole new apreciation for our Blessed Mother.
best of luck to you and you are in my prayers.
thank you i will check this out 🙂

Mary physically probably looked like the Palestinian school girls one might encounter on a bus in Israel. But she would have been stronger because like all village girls of her time and forever, she had to work from a relatively early age. Bernardette at first described her as a young girl about her own age, barefoot but rather well-dressed. Tradition has her working at the loom, so that our Lord’s robe was one he wore on the road, the seamless garment, that she made for him. Brighter and perhaps more articular, and quieter, and maybe even literate, since tradition has her coming from a priestly family. Frank Sheed even speculated that she served as our Lord’s tutor in the Torah. But all this is imaginative construction. Certainly, though, though she was observant.

I recommend the book “Revelations and Prayers of St. Bridget of Sweden” Reprinted by Ignatius Press, San Francisco ISBN 1-58616-004-X. This is a translation of “Sermo Angelicus” or Angelic Discourse concerning the Excellence of the Virgin Mary revealed to St. Bridget. This most edifying writing will explain the wonder and beauty of Our Lady.

She is all things to all people because she is the mother of mankind.

What a strange thing it is that God chose her. Because she is the gate through which he came to us, she is the gate wide open for us to go through to him.
*Adapted from *Bogoroditza* by Catherine Doherty*
That’s beautiful! :newidea:

Being a woman, I can’t always relate to the maleness of God. But I can always relate to Mary. And being somewhat like I imagine her to be (a woman hidden in the home working only for her family), I feel I can talk to her about all the little trials and cares of such a life. Mary is Jesus’ gift to us, and, I think, especially to women.

One more thing - if anyone ever asks why Catholics have such a great devotion to Mary, just tell them that Jesus had a great devotion to Mary first!!! 😉

The Bible tells us that Mary was exhalted by her Son Jesus and raised into heaven. Jesus the King has made Mary his Queen. Mary is Queen of Heaven and Earth. Don’t forget that.

Queens in the Old Testament were always the mother of the King. There are twenty seven Queen Mother’s in listed in the Bible. As King of kings, Jesus is no different. As King of kings, Jesus’ queen is his Mother Mary.

Mary is not an oppressed woman without a voice in a patriarchal society. Mary is a Queen with a crown on her head. Mary is the Queen of Heaven and Earth. Mary is an advocate on behalf of her royal subjects before her Son the King. That was always the role of the queens in the Old Testament. That is Mary’s voice.

Mary is the mother of God , our Lord Jesus Christ. She is immaculately conceived because God prepared her for this. She is the new Ark of the Covenant for within her was born the word made flesh in our Lord Jesus Christ.

She is also our Spiritual Mother for Jesus Himself gave her to us to be our mother in the person of St John. I love my Mother and I know She will always be our Mediator to our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Her cooperation, we obtain our salvation.

God Bless

Since Mary was truly human, she had to learn things as all humans do. I think she was, however, like Eve before the Fall aware of things we are blind to, truly a “seer.” Thus the annunciation would come to her as a revelation like the voice that Abraham heard or the burning bush and voice came to Moses. But in a much more profound way, affecting her whole body.mind and soul, and opening the door to heaven.
