New kid delurking to make a couple of points:
One: Tautology is not argument. Saying the Bible says women “can’t” be ordained, and then offering no examples is not valid. The Vatican, can, has and does change it’s collective mind – not often, but it happens. And, there are arguments, also from scripture, that proponents claim prove women can be priests. I’d love to see a fair fight on this, but, unfortunately, most people seem to just want to end the conversation immediately by yelling “shut up” (aka. “the Vatican said so.”) Not helpful. Not convincing.
Two: this board isn’t by any means a fair sample. I’m sure most people here would declare hands down that contraceptive use is a sin, for instance, but I’ve seen numbers showing repeatedly that over half of Catholics use contraception repeatedly. Obviously, they’re not posting here very often.
Come on, guys. Fight fair.
