[Spoilers] Currently stuck on the 4th Dune book. Is it worth continuing?

Someone I used to run with in Jr high loved the Dune series, so I decided to give it a try to keep myself occupied during my commute. I’ve found that it’s a lot like The Matrix movies in that the first was really fun, but the sequels are increasingly trying to be (bad) philosophy/sociology texts with a thin sprinkling of scifi novel thrown in to taste.

I’m a few chapters into God Emperor of Dune, and I can’t stand Leto’s constant soliloquies on the evils of tyranny and the stupidity of organized religion all while acting as… well… a god-emperor. I never knew a 7 ton human-sandworm hybrid could be so freaking boring.

Is it even worth continuing the series?

It’s been so long since I’ve read them. I know I didn’t make it through the fifth.

I thought the first one was one of the greatest Science Fiction Novels ever written, I quit reading the second one a few chapters in.
 
I remember being bored reading the fourth book. It was so long ago that I don’t remember a lot about it but it might have been more interesting if I had read it from the point of view of trying to understand Frank Herbert as opposed to reading it for the story.
 
No. Mr. Herbert needed a really good editor. The death is the most interesting thing and it happens WAAAAY too late:blush:
