Spokane Diocese to Sell HQ, Bishop's Home

“The Catholic Diocese of Spokane would sell its headquarters and the home of Bishop William Skylstad to settle claims of people who contend they were sexually abused by priests, according to a reorganization plan the diocese filed Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.”

“But the issue of who owns individual parishes, schools and other Catholic property in the diocese is still unresolved, so the plan to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy carries few specifics on the amount of money that would be available for victims.”

“Lawyers for victims called the plan another delay tactic by the diocese, which filed for Chapter 11 protection last December, listing $11.1 million in assets and $81.3 million in liabilities, mostly sexual abuse claims.”

Is Bishop Skylstad a dud or a good guy? What about all the trusted advisors? Did they scurry away?

This was, of course, occasioned by the publicly known scandal involving sexual abuse in the Church. That crisis itself many of us welcomed because it was really only the final consequences of serious problems that had been lying under the surface for so many years and often treated as if they weren’t there.

As much as it has hurt the Church, it was going to have to come anyway. It’s too bad that it was the secular press that were able to blow the cover on what was going on underground and behind the scenes.

The scandal was rooted in false doctrine, in failure to teach and defend the Church’s teaching on sexual morality, and that lead to both contraception and abortion by the laity and homosexuality and other sexual abuses by the clergy.

Have you considered New England, for example. Practically every politician elected to a national office is pro-abortion and part of the culture of death. None of these folks would be in office without Catholic votes.

You will note,that none of this money is the bishops. No matter what happens his money is still in his pocket. So paying high priced lawyers to delay the just settlements with the victims of clerical crimes.Is of little real effect to him. His worry is the records,how much did he help the pedophile priests,thats whats hes fighting to keep secret.
