Were do you go for mass? Homes?

Do we also lose the vestments and chalaces all the things we use at mass also?

If you try to rase funds to buy and bild a new church bild will that also be taken and sold?

Dos anyone know?

If ever churches are sold to settle lawsuits, I don’t think that would include vestements and chalices. Those items are made for Mass and no one else would have a use for them.

I think this discussion is about a decade premature. That is about how long it would take for things to transpire.

First a dollar figure and the terms for disbursment needs to be settled between the Diocese and the victims. Nobody knows how much this will be.

If the settlement exceeds the Diocese ability to pay (very likely) the court will begin to identify assets and order them sold to generate the necessary revenue. The victims wouldn’t get everything, just enough to cover the settlement. Once they are paid off, all other assets are safe.

The Diocese would be able to bid on all sale items too, so the Church could buy back its property if it wanted to.

I think your property is safe for a long time.

My brother is a priest and they have to buy their own vestments and chalices, and any other person items they need for Mass.

It is my experience that God will not force sin upon the faithful.

The Vatican has explicitly condemned the bishop seizing up the parish assetts. Despite whatever the secular law may demand, the church cannot violate this order.

Likewise, the church owes obediance to the secular government as well. From my view, if it comes down to it, no matter what the church does in that situation, keep the parishes, or sell them, it is sinning.

God will not force His church to sin. He will protect it. It will not come about. I have faith in his Holy Spirit.

Catholics should be very careful how they fight this fight.
JFK was the first Catholic President and just barely elected.I remember the lies we had to listen to during the election. How Catholics weren’t good Americans, how we obeyed a foreign prince, the Pope. How we weren’t loyal to America.
So we don’t want any legal ploys used that woud bring into question our being Americans !

Sorry but despite the fact I love my country, Pope Ben over Uncle Sam. This is why i could never hold office. the Pope is the ultimate authority for anything to do with the church or moral teaching, and thsi issue is definatly church-related.

If Rome has said not to sell parishes, then the bishop must obey. If he is forced by the gov’t, he really has no chice then.
