Is rooting against a rival team wrong if “my” team is not even playing? Is that wishing evil or misfortune upon someone? Or since someone has to win the game, am I entitled to root for whomever I want?
It isn’t evil to hope one particular team wins-- there will be a winner and a looser, no matter what. Having a prefernce for who fills which role is fine.
Probably wise [for our own spiritual and emotional well being] to hope FOR one, rather than AGAINST the other.
It is wrong to hope the loss comes about through evil events, like a player being seriously injured. If you do this, you are hoping for evil and making yourself a partner to it.
