Spread the word: It's still great to be a Catholic

That’s a high enough percentage to make me feel better about our Church.
It’s high, but it would be great if it were higher. Still, I recognize that these are crimes that occurred way prior to the last 18 years of reforms. I volunteer in the Church and I went through all the legalities and I’m really not worried. I will be worried if they call for relaxing common sense reforms (i.e. fingerprints, background checks, open doors, etc.)

For me, the most important thing about the Church is the Sacraments, which Jesus instituted to give us grace and life. It’s faithful and holy parish priests, lots of them, and it’s also good lay people. We gather in the Mass and also at other times for prayer, Bible study, and faith building. It’s Mary and the Saints and the great Body of Christ, and Jesus wants us to be part of that, forever.

Yes, it is great to be a Catholic. It still is, and it always will be.
This is really a breathe of fresh air especially when there is so much anti-religion and anti-Catholic in the media.

Totally agree with that. When it come to truth, holiness and God, nothing can beat Catholicism.

And why are we surprised when Catholics sin or even create scandal? We never claim to be perfect in the first place but rather a hospital for the sick. The treatment is ongoing but Jesus is a fine doctor which one can get from the Church.

We should live a life as one who has been treated, to shine in the dark where there is so much sickness and where so many are lost. All the above will help us to shine.

Yes, the journey of spiritual growth for a Catholic is a personal journey, and the Church is still filled with so many priests who are excellent at their ‘guide’ job.

If I had a criticism, it would be that many elevate Bishops etal on too high a high pedestal. Now that pedestal is cracking for some.

Sounds like you’re content with whatever problems exist. Best of luck.

Greetings brothers and sisters. Yes it is great to be Catholic, and it always will be. Yet, it is sad, upsetting, indeed angering to witness what is happening with the scandals. What to do? Pray yes. But more. The Church - which means all of us as her adherents- need to go on offense.

Some others have said this, and I concur - the laity need to become more involved. How? Well, thinking out loud so to speak, organizing activities - and not just at church, but in the community. 5K runs, marathons, marches for life, sponsoring events such as food drives for the poor, painting houses, cleaning beaches, building playgrounds, on and on. And advertise that we are doing it. Not for vanity, but 1) service, 2) to interact with our fellow citizens and offer them a glimpse of real life Catholics, and 3) yes, for public relations.

Our priests as well - need to get out of the familiar surroundings of their church and into the community. Ever see “On the Waterfront?” Great movie, great depiction of a Catholic priest. He said his church was the neighborhood/community and he went about addressing issues within that community. This was fiction, yes, but why can’t this be emulated in real life?

We go to church to gather as we should, but then we leave and go about our lives. That’s normal, but we all need to do more, and I count myself at the top of that list.

Just my 2 cents. Take care all!
