I was at the Ordination Mass for the Springfield Diocese on Saturday, and we saw 7 men ordained. It was one of the most beautiful events I’ve ever witnessed. I especially liked when all the priests from the Diocese layed their hands on the new priests and when the priests got to change their vestments. It was so beautiful! I can’t wait 'til next year’s when I can go to another one.

Yesterday, Fr. Tom Donovan (one of the newly ordained priests) celebrated his first Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Patrick’s Parish in Decatur, IL. What an event! Several priests who had been at St. Patrick’s while he was growing up there attended, deacons, the msgr., other guys from his class, etc. It was great. Then there was a big bash for him at the Decatur Civic Center after the Mass. That was a lot of fun, too.

It’s things like these that make me so joyful to be a Catholic. 😃

Not to hi-jack your thread but…St. Patrick’s is a beautiful church! How lucky you are! I stopped in there once when I was in Decatur. Is the parish as traditional as the church is beautiful??

St. Patrick’s is a beautiful church! I feel so blessed to attend Mass there.

When did you stop in there? The inside has been redone in the last few years. Have you seen it since then?

I think it’s pretty traditional. Of course, I don’t have a lot to compare it with since this is my first parish. However, there are no liturgical abuses. Fr. Jeff wouldn’t allow that. He doesn’t celebrate the Latin Mass, but he is faithful to the Magesterium. He’s a great priest and we all feel very fortunate to have him here.

It was just a few weeks ago. I actually couldn’t see the whole church - it was 11:10 on a Friday and I stopped in to pray on my way through town when I saw the church. I went in the side door since the front door was locked and realized Mass was about to start! I didn’t want to disturb anyone by walking to the center of the church and then leaving (I didn’t have the time to stay for Mass). But I wish I could have both stayed for Mass and seen the entire sanctuary - what I saw from the side was absolutely breath-taking!

Fr. Jeff celebrates Mass at 11:30 on Friday mornings, but Tuesday through Thursday it’s at 8:30. You should try to get back and see it. You’re right when you say it’s breath-taking.

This is the Sanctuary at St. Patrick’s Church in Decatur. I wish you could see the stained-glass windows above, but this is a really great shot.
