Eve was tempted by Satan. She was told that “the moment you eat it [the apple] your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know what is good and what is bad.” (St. Joseph’s NAB)
So Eve was filled with the pride that comes from thinking we can know the mind of God? Of being like Him? As we know, she is disobedient.
This is where I wonder if it is not like Sola Scriptura. The Christian has been convinced he can know the mind and the Will of God, knowing right from wrong. No, the Bible is not forbidden fruit, but Satan has succeeded in separating many souls from the Body of Christ, which is His Bride, the Catholic Church.
Obedience is a tough calling, and Eve was the first to fall. What about those who just cannot submit themselves to the rightful authority of the Church?
