Well, if you knew me before, hello again! I’m not sure why I was banned, but I came across a page and I really need help. Here’s the part that gets me:

The following list give a summation of what we have been trying to emphasize. If the Bible is a Catholic book,

**1. Why does it condemn clerical dress? (Matt. 23:5-6). **
2. Why does it teach against the adoration of Mary? (Luke 11:27-28).
3. Why does it show that all Christians are priests? (1 Pet. 2:5,9).
**4. Why does it condemn the observance of special days? (Gal. 4:9-11). **
5. Why does it teach that all Christians are saints? (1 Cor. 1:2).
6. Why does it condemn the making and adoration of images? (Ex. 20:4-5).
7. Why does it teach that baptism is immersion instead of pouring? (Col. 2:12).
8. Why does it forbid us to address religious leaders as “father”? (Matt. 23:9).
**9. Why does it teach that Christ is the only foundation and not the apostle Peter? (1 Cor. 3:11). **
10. Why does it teach that there is one mediator instead of many? (1 Tim. 2:5).
**11. Why does it teach that a bishop must be a married man? (1 Tim. 3:2, 4-5). **
12. Why is it opposed to the primacy of Peter? (Luke 22:24-27).
13. Why does it oppose the idea of purgatory? (Luke 16:26).
14. Why is it completely silent about infant baptism, instrumental music in worship, indulgences, confession to priests, the rosary, the mass, and many other things in the Catholic Church?

I’ve seen most answered, so I bolded the ones that I need clarification on. Just answer this for me, and I promise I’ll never return to this site again…
Like Eden said, you weren’t banned, you were suspended. While I don’t know the reason, I can speculate it was because you kept posting anti-Catholic rhetoric without any attempt at dialogue. In your mind the Catholic Church is wrong and no amount of evidence will convince you to change your mind. You kept telling us the Catholic Church is wrong on everything, inciting some people to anger. Whenever it appears you are only posting to anger the majority of the people on this forum, you will be suspended.

I hope you stick around. You have many questions and they won’t get answered by going away. You can always ask an apologist, whether it’s a forum question or by calling Catholic Answers.

**My question for you are: **

Where does the Bible say it is the sole rule of faith?

Where does the Bible say it can be a personal interpretation?

Where does the Bible say it is the foundation of truth?

Look up the answer to these questions and you’ll be on your way to understanding why the Catholic Church is the one true church.

This reminds me of something a Russian Orthodox once told me. She said that in the 2,000 year history of Christianity, Protestants have only been around for 500 years, which makes them like teenagers in the history of Christianity. And teenagers think they know everything. I know you’re only 16, but in 10 years you will be able to appreciate it.

Kaycee - I’m going to repost the quote from the Gospel of Matthew: Jesus states, "Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it" (19:12 NAB). This is an invitation from Christ to live as he did, and there can be nothing unacceptable in that.**

My response about Protestant clergy was directly related to the anti-Catholic website that attempted to define celibacy as unbiblical. While the site questions the legitimacy of celibacy among the clergy, I am more troubled by the fact that Protestant faiths do not even entertain the option of celibacy for their ministers of which Christ Himself said "whoever can accept this ought to accept it."

Here are some excerpts from the Catechism on Celibacy:

When speaking of the sacrifices a man might make in order to follow Him, Christ spoke of those who would give up wives and homes for the sake of the Gospel (cf. Matt. 19.29). From the first days of the Church there were priests who were celibate, that is, who did not marry, so that they might give their lives and hearts even more undividedly to the service of Christ (cf. 1 Cor. 7.32-35; 9.5).

Celibacy is loved in the Church for many reasons. It makes the priest more like Christ. St. Paul noted that it gives one great freedom in the service of Christ, and it deepens personal attachment to Him (cf. 1 Cor. 7.32-35). Moreover, the Church desires priests, who preach the duty to bear the cross and to be obedient to God’s commands even in the most difficult circumstances, to live in such a way that it is obvious that they are making great personal sacrifices for the Gospel. Priestly celibacy has also been called an eschatological sign, a sign pointing toward eternal life, for one who lives a celibate life in the world is living in a style appropriate to the reality of the next life, in which there will be no marrying (cf. Mark 12.25) and so manifests his faith in eternal life.

When I see attacks on celibacy for Catholic clergy and think about the statements of Christ, Matthew, Paul and Mark which support it, I can’t help but wonder why other Christians not only criticize celibacy but completely ignore this calling! The criticism of celibacy as being “unbiblical” when Christ Himself was celibate makes me go  . Should our clergy attempt to be as Christ-like as possible or not?

Whoa… it seems I need to clear some things up.

First of all, whenever I posted some questions, I would come back the next day and see PAGES of answers, so there’s no way I could reply to every single post, though I DID read all of them.

I know you think that I posted a lot of anti-Cathilc things, but they’re only questions and stuff I had. I mean, there is SO much anti-catholic literature, websites, tv-shows, and society and the media in general. I don’t want to submit myself to this religion (I’m going to talk to my mom about being confirmed soon) without completely 100% believing in EVERYTHING. And, I always come across a site full of things that make me think… maybe it’s not right? What if by being confirmed to the Catholic Church I’ll be… basically… signing a contract to Hell? I’m sorry if I offended anyone, but I don’t think I have.

Anyway, I read all the replies and have a clearer understanding of my religion. But since I’m obviously not wanted here, I’ll just ask questions in the AOL chat rooms from now on, because catholic.com doesn’t always provide me with the clearest answers. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Geez Kyle … how clear do ya want it? Talk to me…or IM me

Kyle, no one minds you being here asking questions. If you want to ask questions, ask them. If you want to PM me you can, I will be glad to help you out.

Good things to read to know what the Catholic Church teaches are The Catechism of The Catholic Church, The Bible, and the saints. I hear that Francis De Sales’s “The Great Controvercy” is good. It is compiled of a bunch of tracts that St. Francis de Sales wrote at the time of the Reformation in order to get the Calvinists to return to the Church.

O gosh, don’t go away mad.

Just think, if nobody wanted to talk to you, then it’s strange they took the time and bother to write you a couple dozen posts, many of them very thoughtful and showing much research. I’m sorry if you feel you are not wanted, but that is inaccurate – or at least it is at this point if you can get past judging us for maybe judging you.

Oh, let him go, if that’s what he wants. Farewell, Kyle - may God go with you! You leave here of your own free will. That is your God-given right. I pray thee well! So long!

Kyle is only 17 years old and has a lot of questions. I don’t understand why his age wasn’t taken into account with some of the answers given. I think that we get so many antiCatholics here that we sometimes handle questions as though we were expecting some sort of trap. That is understandable, but it might drive young Catholics away. We certainly don’t want Kyle to get his answers to his questions from AOL or, even worse, Catholic bashing sites. We should be glad that all these questions were asked here, where he could get straight answers not to some site such as Alpha Omega which is run by James White.

Kyle it might help next time to announce your age. That way people on this site will understand that you aren’t one of the ardent AntiCatholics that come on this site. I think that privatly mailing Catholic Militant is a wonderful suggestion. He could answer the majority of your questions and help you with any confusion that certain web sites have led you.

Finally, do you read your bible? I ask because some of the verses that Protestants use to confuse weak Catholics are actually taken out of context. So before you believe what someone tells you a verse means, take the bible and read the text surronding those verses.

Respecting the Bible, Kyle asks, “4. Why does it condemn the observance of special days? (Gal. 4:9-11)” if the Catholic Church is correct?

What you are doing here, Kyle, is firing-out a criticism of the Church based on a poor reading of Scripture. In effect, it is as though I were giving a lecture on food, and condemned eating sugar and salt and carbs, and you, in the audience, ran out of the auditorium screaming, “BibleReader condemns eating food!!!”

If Galatians is ccarefully read – not just a tiny piece of one chapter – it becomes apparent that what Paul was condemning was the observance of the Jewish calendar.

There was a competition, in early Christianity, between the “Judaizers” – Christians intent on retaining Jewish rituals in Christianity – and the Pauline Christians. That is what the Council of Jerusalem was all about. Paul and his followers insisted that circumcision was not longer necessary. The Judaizers insisted that all of these uncircumcized pagan Celts Paul was converting had to have their foreskins cut off. The Council decided in favor of Paul.

In Galatians, after Paul converted the Celts there, “Judaizers” apparently followed him to Galatia and convinced them to adapt the Jewish calendar as part of their newfound Christianity.

When Paul heres that they have done this, he writes in his Letter to the Galatians about how he won the contest with the Judaizers at the Council of Jerusalem (Galatians 2:1-21) and thus we see in Galatians 3 that he discusses the imagined distinction between “Jew” and Greek, implicitly arguing that there is no need to become a “Jew” under Christianity. (Galatians 3:1-29).

That is the context of Galatians 4.

So, in Galatians 4, Paul is not condemning “the observance of special days,” but rather the observance of Old Testament Jewish days, as opposed to New Testament Christianity.

Judaism is full of “pictures” of Christ. In circumcision, the penis, the preeminent expression of “man,” which is the type, or symbol, for “God,” “representative of God,” or “empowered by God,” is “stripped” (of the foreskin) and bloodied (by the scourging, crowning with thorns and crucifixion). Thus, Jewish men, when they are circumcized, wear on their persons a “picture” foreshadowing Christ!

On Passover, a “blemishless lamb” with no broken bones is killed and eaten, foreshadowing sinless Christ whose bones were not broken being killed, and eaten in the form of the Real Presence in the Eucharist.

Paul is arguing in Galatians that such foreshadowings are no longer necessary, Christ having come.

Your extension of the principle in Galatians to NON-Jewish special days is simply squarely wrong, and the result of no reading at all by you. You are just taking “pot shots” at Catholicism.

If you are confirmed in the Catholic faith, you are most assuredly not signing a contract to Hell. It’s wonderful that you take your Confirmation so seriously. I wish you would have started out by telling us that you are considering Confirmation and wanted to clear up some difficulties before taking that step. It’s sometimes hard to distinguish between typical anti-Catholic rhetoric and a genuine poster who is confused. May God bless you on your journey. (If you want to be “un-suspended” on your first ID I think you have to contact the Administrator and ask to be reinstated.)

Also Kyle, it would help if you would phrase your questions in such a way that it is clear you are not just cutting and pasting entire lists of anti-Catholic rhetoric from another site. Start with one or two questions only.

Also, use the search box at the top of the page to see if these questions have been answered before. Recently when I had a question about how to address a Bishop, I didn’t realize that that question had already been answered. People did answer anyway, and then someone here kindly referred me to past threads that addressed it. I wished that I had done a search myself, prior to asking. So in the future, I will search first and if I can’t find a thread with the answer, or maybe if I need a more complete answer, then I will ask.

When I read your OP, it looked to me like you were saying, “Aha Catholics - gotcha!” with that website’s long list “proving” how wrong the Catholic Church is. When you come across a site that posts cr*p like that, first realize that there are people out there who are rabidly anti-Catholic, and just posting their opinions on a website does not make them so. If you read something there that concerns you, go to Catholic Answers’ main page and do a search to see what the Church says about that.
