For anyone who thought this would be a discussion on Same Sex Attraction, I am sorry, however I am using the proper acronym for the Social Security Administration. I would like to know whether recieving Social Security Benefits (Medicare/Medicaid/Supplemental Income) is moral or immoral, simply from a biblical perspective. Because it says render unto caesars what is caesars and render unto god what is gods and I read it to mean that you should only give to the government what is theirs and give to gods what is gods and that you should not take from the government or from god.

First of all, you earned your money, then the government took your money, now the government is giving you back what was yours to begin with. You’re not stealing since you’re merely accepting back what is rightfully your own.

yes your understanding is right until the last sentence. Why would you assume that because we have the duty as citizens to render our due to the government, including taxes, that there is contained in that passage some command not to receive our due from the same government? You do understand that SS and SSA and Medicare are not entitlements but partial return on taxes you have already paid.

Maria, it’s yours. Take it while it’s still there. Might not be for some of us when the time comes.

To a point, though. There are very few who have paid into the system more than they take out of it.

Hey your paying in, the only thing immoral is the govt. spending it like drunkin sailors…I’ts just filled with paper "iou’s…I had an accident at work and retired early…I’m glad I contributed for many years…

Of course you should receive what ever you are due from the government. To believe otherwise would mean we couldn’t drive on roads built by the government. The only time it becomes immoral is when you claim them falsely (claim disability when you are not disabled etc)

Also we receive gifts from God every moment in the form of our very lives which would end instantly without God willing you to stay alive. His grace and mercy are gifts freely given to us and we can do nothing to earn them.
